Awww. I do love that moment in the series -- the way that LXC looks at LWJ's annoyed "oh, it's him" face and decodes it to secretly mean LWJ wants any excuse to spend time with WWX. Honestly, it seems half-motivated by wanting his baby brother to be happy and fall in love, and half motivated by a big brother's innate right to embarrass and tease you about a crush you're desperately trying to hide.

HEY HI @out-there-tmblr, remember when you said this? GUESS WHAT. Lan Xichen the teaser is canon in the extras!! And not just about Wei Wuxian. Look here:

The vendors, farmers, and passersby rarely saw young masters such as [Lan Wangji], all of them hurrying to avoid him. They either feared that he was an arrogant heir, scared they’d accidentally offend him, or feared his cold expression. After all, even Lan XiChen had once joked that no life could remain unfrozen within six feet of Lan WangJi.

And here (the brothers are training, and are doing handstand with one hand (*fans self*)):

The rabbits snuggled against each other, forming quite an adorable scene even when seen upside-down. Lan XiChen, “What are their names?”

Lan WangJi shook his head, either to say they had no names or simply refusing to say them out loud.

Lan XiChen, however, added, “I heard you call them by their names last time.”

“…”

Sincerely, Lan XiChen commented, “They have lovely names.”

Lan WangJi switched his hand. Lan XiChen, “The time is not up yet.”

In silence, Lan WangJi switched his hand back.

Huh. I've got to say I've never been able to pinpoint why Jace and Izzy don't feel queerto me o the show -- at all -- but I think this is it. There's so much unthinking straight privilege there in the way they react to Alec (not in a terrible way, just they're still such dumb kids) that I can't really believe they're not straight. Huh.

Yeah. Like. I enjoy them as queer in fic, but I am honestly glad the show didn’t try to navigate that, because there’s no way they could have given them the space and time to do it justice, especially as an actual self-discovery arc in contrast to Alec’s self-aware closet.

he might be in "visual novels are not real games" stage. so basicaly anything that has combat. if its indi - even better

enjoyably enough, that was also what Thing 1′s face did, so at least I only lost track with one of them? 🤷‍♀️😉🤣

@duchesscloverly Thank you for making them. You'd be surprised the number of times I've returned to your vids when wanting inspiration or needing a way to shake writer's block. (Especially Give Your Heart A Break. That is my absolute favourite.)

Wow. That's a big shipper. (Because it wasn't until rewatxhing the series that I noticed the first time LWJ suggests bringing someone back to Cloud Recesses that LXC doesn't even have to ask who, he only has concerns that WWX might not be willing.)

My slash goggles were on right from the beginning so I was very happy to interpret LXC’s “You need a friend of your age, isn’t WWX so good at fighting” as being a shipper. But in novel, it actually *sounds* like shipping.

Still, I rechecked the episode just to confirm something anyway. In the series, when Lan Xichen and Lan Wangji are about to go on Water Ghouls hunt in the Lake Biling, JC, WWX ask to be taken with him. The whole scene is quite same in the novel (minus the Wens, they’re not there in Cloud Recesses at all). In the episode, though, when LWJ asks why LXC allowed them, LXC replies, 'I looked at you and you seemed to want them go with us, didn’t you?’ In the novel, LXC isn’t beating around the bush. This is how it goes in the novel:

Lan WangJi looked at them from behind, his brows knitted with confusion, “Brother, why did you decide to bring them? Exterminating ghouls is not suited for joking around.”

Lan XiChen answered, “The head disciple and only son of Sect Leader Jiang are quite well-known in Yunmeng. It is likely that they know more than joking around.”

Although Lan WangJi didn’t express his opinion, the phrase “I beg to differ” was written all over his face.

Lan XiChen spoke again, “And, also, you wish for him to go as well, do you not?”

Lan WangJi was stunned.

Lan XiChen, “I only agreed because you looked as if you wanted the head disciple of Sect Leader Jiang to come with you.”

A silence fell upon them, as if the air was frozen solid.

Only after a while did Lan WangJi finally respond, speaking with great difficulty, “There was no such thing.”

It's kind of gorgeous, isn't it? Just when you've given up hope -- just when you think, well, yeah, maybe WWX does deserve to have a little time and freedom to get over the last few years and all that loss, time to wander without pressure of his own reputation or his family, maybe I can be generous in my desire to see him happy and let him wander alone across that pretty countryside...

Then we get "Wei Ying" and the most delighted and joyful smile ever, and that knowledge that there will be a happy ending of WWX/LWJ because that is the face of a man deeply in love. *happy sigh*

I gotta be honest. I was cursing the showmakers right left and center for making them part AGAIN. I was trying to tell my heart, no it’s ok, Wei Wuxian maybe wants to remain untamed and unchained. And Lan Wangji will give him everything he wants, including solo journey if that’s what he wishes. But it was very futile exercise because my heart could not believe that after all this, Wei Wuxian would want to go on his own way. And frankly Xiao Zhan ‘s acting could make even a stone realize how much Wei Wuxian did not want it. I am so happy and angry that the showmakers made my heart a tennis ball between ‘will they’ and ‘won’t they’, and finally scored a perfect point!

Oh god, that final “Wei Ying” is the best sound I could hear over and over again!

The Untamed definitely confuses you so much in the first three episodes and then the flashback is intriguing and suddenly you love these characters and need to know what happens next.

Tbh, I just came in it for the pretty after seeing gifs here on tumblr. Of course, I looked up a bit about synopsis, and thought, ok pretty, pretty gay, with a casefic. I am just so charmed!

Interesting. I'd heard that he's a bit less over the top in the series -- maybe it's because the charm of the actor can offset some of WWX brattishness (Or, hmm, maybe that You can see how much else is going on even when he's playing at being a pain).

In the novel, he is *deliberately* being a brat. He is just resurrected, has an obligation of avenging enemies of Mo Xuanyu, and is seemed to have lost a lot of memories (including all the shippy memories). He wants to push everyone away until he figures out how to be in the world again. The only way he seems to know to do that is being an obnoxious person. Mo Xuanyu is a known gay in the novel. WWX doesn’t care about that, but he uses that quite shamelessly to make people uncomfortable in the hope that they will leave him alone. That leaves a bit of a bad taste in the mouth. Anything more I say will be too much spoilers. But he *has* improved later. A bit. At least he seems to feel some shame at the plot point where I’m.
