Stardew Valley absolutely spoiled me re: how to figure out mods btw

Yeah the whole Beyond line is just SO GOOD. They thought of nearly everything, including warning about some products with peas, which may cross-react as peanuts for people who are super sensitive to peanuts. No gluten, no soy, no animal products, no nuts. Nada. And it tastes so much like meat (from my memory at least)
They’re working on reducing the price point, apparently. I hope they do. It’s been a godsend for my friend with multiple allergies. Food science is the future!

Huh. I've got to say I've never been able to pinpoint why Jace and Izzy don't feel queerto me o the show -- at all -- but I think this is it. There's so much unthinking straight privilege there in the way they react to Alec (not in a terrible way, just they're still such dumb kids) that I can't really believe they're not straight. Huh.
Yeah. Like. I enjoy them as queer in fic, but I am honestly glad the show didn’t try to navigate that, because there’s no way they could have given them the space and time to do it justice, especially as an actual self-discovery arc in contrast to Alec’s self-aware closet.

I’m conflicted.
Because I have gone into something that didn’t look like something I’d normally like (usually because I like the author/artist, occasionally via a rec) and really enjoyed it and wanted to tell them that in a way to emphasize that they had done something really well, or had put a different spin on a trope I don’t usually find terribly engaging, that kind of thing, and I feel like they should be commended for that skill, or for overcoming my previous expectations, because I feel like that is of note. You are really good at this thing you created!
But then I’ve also received comments that look/feel so judgmental, that are distancing, just like you said, and I’m never sure if the person giving them knows that or not? Especially on smut, thingswithwings has an excellent point there. People get super weird about sex in fiction. Even if it’s not kinky. (Also, gosh, I have such a fandom crush on tww, so articulate and also they make such pretty things) Like, I write a lot of smut? I am happy to talk about NSFW headcanons, I think it can be an important part of a characterization, and yet half the time I get an ask on a subject I have previously been more than happy to talk about and I go ew because the tone is just off, but it’s so hard to EXPLAIN WHY.

I'm not really good with words so I apologize if anything I say comes across in a way that makes you feel uncomfortable, becasue that is not an intention at all. I have commented on rare pairings you have written before and its meant as a compliment each and every time. its not that you are doing it wrong, on the contrary, you are doing it so right, that with your writing you actualy fix what made me dislike or not consider something in a first place. your
gosh darn it, fat fingers. your writing basically gets me to reconsider and reevaluate.
you have never made me feel uncomfortable, and that sort of response, that oh I like what you made me think about, is part of why I am, as previously mentioned, kind of conflicted about my reaction to I don’t usually like this, but comments. Because it can be really hard to explain to someone why one of them seems like a compliment and the next one comes across like an insult.

I agree with you. Whenever i read something im not usually sure about and love it i immediately shower the author with compliments at the end. Like "hey this isn't usually my style but i gave it a shot cause i love this pairing and your writing and WOW ITS SO GOOD". And thats how it should be - if you read something outside your usual pairing or fandom or genre have a GOOD reason and be super positive and upfront about what drew you in.
And we’re back to yes, that is clearly a compliment!
But do we really need to be telling someone that first part? However well-intentioned? What if I’m sensitive about my style? What if I was trying something new? What if I got hung up on wondering “why, what’s wrong with this style?” instead of the “wow it’s so good”? We have no way of knowing, as readers, which parts of their work creators are struggling with, and which thing we meant as a compliment it’s so good it got me past my usual biases and/or squicks! comes across instead as why are you indulging in this thing that is usually gross?

I remember this story too, and it's so sad, but also so real in the way that they lose touch with each other because of responsibilities and don't know how to get back. I loved how truthful it was.

Just like @teaandinanity I bought the thing, and it continues to be delightful, even without an ability to romance a Weyr. (To be fair, though, the romance I did do was rather an overview of a romance than anything with any depth, so I may just have to enjoy the setting & characters in this one more than the relationships? Which means a Weyr romance in my head is totally possible.)

San Jupinero is very worth watching. I'm not very big on Black mirror myself, but that episode is very sweet and hopeful. AND it has Gugu Mbatha-Raw as one of the leads (talk about ridiculously pretty) I think you will enjoy it a LOT
