My two dads taught me everything I know about love and family. And now we’re ready to show the rest of America what it means because many people don’t realize that marriage bans affect kids and families – not just same-sex couples. Next week, my family will drive from Kentucky to Washington, D.C., to go before the Supreme Court on Tuesday, April 28. Together we're fighting to get them to recognize my parents as a married couple. This monumental trip is not just for our family, but so that couples in all 50 states can get married and have their existing marriages acknowledged and respected too.

As the number of states with marriage equality increases across the country, we’ve begun to see an increase in calls to allow government officials and business owners to discriminate against same-sex couples. We saw efforts to pass a bill that could have allowed such discrimination in Arizona last year, and we’re seeing it again in Michigan right now.

Nobody should be turned away from a business, refused service by government officials, or evicted from their home, just because of who they are.

We've been taught this from the day we were little kids, the first thing we learned when we got to school. We probably had it drilled into our minds before the A, B, Cs, but why does it not apply yet? Why do we constantly have to fear the justice system that is presented before us? Because there is no justice. 

We might not all be religious, but we all must agree that all humans deserve the rights that they were born with, no matter the color of their skin, the sexuality that they hold, or the beliefs that they have. It is just cruel to see our American Justice System be completely oblivious of what has been happening to the faces of our nation.
