Rumours [Hypercolour, 2016]
Outboxx feat. Naomi Jeremy - So Strong
In a recent interview we did with Hodge for the Gottwood programme, we couldn’t help ask but him a question about the future of Outboxx, a duo he’s part of with fellow Bristolian Matt Lambert. His response gave a sense that it was a project at least on hold, but potentially on a more permanent hiatus, as both followed different passions, so to see a new release so quickly off the back of that, comes as somewhat of surprise.
Not that we’re complaining. Since 2011, Outboxx have been making some of the smoothest, soulful deep house to come out of the South West, rivalled only to Chaos in the CBD if we’re widening the scope to the rest of the UK. After releases on Well Rounded, Idle Hands, Brstl, Futureboogie and Local Talk, their next beneficiaries are Hypercolour, who present a three-track EP, with two originals and a remix from Andrés. On the A-side, we start with something deeper, aimed for dancefloors just below boiling point. Our pick sits on the B-side, embracing the warmth of old calling cards like ‘Through The Night‘, nicely contextualised within this Indian summer we (momentarily) find ourselves in.
Rumours EP is out 3rd October – pre-order from Juno.
