When dinosaurs were first discovered, paleontologists then would be seen as incompetent now. They made a (now outdated) hypothesis claiming that the dinosaurs were so slow, sluggish, and inert in regards to evolution that they caused their own extinction.
A sad observation I made about humanity is that even though we’re the smartest creatures that have ever lived on this planet, we’re still on the path to causing our own extinction and taking so many other species with us (and we’re already in the middle of a mass extinction that we caused).
