While driving around the Northwest Territories, we came upon the small and peaceful community of Kakisa. It was so quiet that we drove through the village and didn’t see a single person there. It wasn’t until we entered the general store that we actually saw someone. We passed by some wonderful nature along the way in, and finally came upon this lake that I thought might make for some nice aurora scenery. . When nightfall came, the skies lit up and exploded in a multitude of colours. Keep in mind this was only the second night in my life seeing the aurora borealis, so I was ecstatic to be able to see such an explosion. It came from my right—behind the SUV that my wife ended up falling asleep while I danced around the area experimenting with shots—and travelled directly above me, moving to my left, above the lake. . The aurora was so active my 14mm lens couldn’t even capture everything in one frame. . I did some selfies that didn’t turn out, and came out with lots of blurry images, and some wacky compositions—many of which you can see if you swipe left—but I didn’t care as it was so surreal seeing all of this with my own eyes. .
