A lady in red—she has been known to shake the atmosphere a time or two.
No matter what happens.
No matter what comes.
Here—beside you—is where you’ll find me.
THAT FINALE. THAT PRAYER.
I cried. It was brutal, heart-breaking, yet not without a tear of beauty.
One of my favorite scenes of all time is from 2x11 “Vengeance is Mine” because I love when Jamie prays. There is something pure & electric about it. It shifts the atmosphere of the scene instantly.
However, this prayer was quite different. It was a prayer of brokenness. It was a prayer of loss. Yet, this small detail of dialogue added a lovely dimension to this moment and I am thankful for it.
really wish C and J would discuss the robbery/assault in episode 1. its unfair doesn't get to decompress or process her trauma.
Hello darling!!!
I am going to be honest and say: I totally agree.
It did hit me somewhat oddly from a narrative standpoint that the robbery/assault was not processed by Claire on screen.
I do not want to harp on negatives of the episode, but it did seem rather clunky in the plot to just move right along without any acknowledgement that her most prized possession from ripped away from her very finger.
It could have fit in very naturally with the dialogue when Jamie is grieving the murder of his friend (Although I do see the flip-side to this point in that perhaps Claire was preferring Jamie above herself and giving him space to grieve the loss of life before her loss of possession.)
But…from my perspective, it would have been a lovely characterization moment for Claire to actually verbally talk through a traumatic experience she’s had out loud with her husband. It’s relatively rare that this happens on screen.
Cait’s performance during that scene was absolutely spectacular. Her grief, despair, anger, and horror were palpable. So it does not make much sense from a fluidity standpoint that something as horrifying as that would happen to her and it not have one line of dialogue in the script.
HOWEVER…
Just because it was not spoken about in this episode does not mean it will not be in the future. I surely hope it will!
Thank you so much for the ask and I hope you have a terrific Tuesday!!!
