Outlander Knitting

I found a whole bunch of knitting and crocheting patterns in some library books I checked out. Since I have to return them soon, I thought I'd document the projects I want to return to or even create inspiration for my future projects. I am posting a few patterns from Outlander Knitting edited by Kate Atherly.

A big motivation for creating my own arm warmers is that I have eczema. In the past, I have tried to make arm warmers from cutting socks or wearing compression sleeves, but they are always too tight or they are itchy for me. Arm warmers are so cozy and soft and much more appealing than other options I mentioned.

I love turtlenecks, but sometimes I forget to do the laundry. This is where a cowl would be wonderful, plus it doesn't take a lot of space in the closet. I love feeling snug and comfy, so I gravitated towards these two patterns. Hopefully this becomes a resource for others who like outlander or knitting or both!

These are some of the great knitted shawls and shrugs of Outlander. They add a lot to the rugged “feel” of the show along with the heavy woolen skirts and distressed clothing. The rent shawl with the black and heather stripe caught my eye in season 1, and I just had to get one. After a wonderful lady made it for me, I decided that I should be knitting them myself. I really fell for the “Carolina” shawl with the three stripes of season 4. Youtube had some great tutorials, so I learned how to do it.

Inspired by the second season  of Outlander I have knitted a shawl)  I used the muffled gray color popular in clothes in Scotland of the 18th century, but have a little decorated a shawl, having added a white lacy edge. This chunky shawl is knitted from a wonderful yarn of 50% of wool, 50% of polyamide. Shawl width 150 cm/59", shawl length 75cm/29".
