The new update and rping: how does this look for you?
EDIT: Tumblr staff themself encourages you to instead send feedback through their posts on @changes. So go voice your complaints there primarily, but also keep sending feedback requests too to keep them busy.
I've been here since 2012 and have personally been here to see almost every bad tumblr update and this is one of the top 3 for sure. While this will not break rping in it's entirety it will make it pretty hard to view threads in any way other than searching the tag on a blog. Please bare with these screenshots this is gonna look very confusing.
Every thread with anything new in the reblog body essentially is now a twitter qrt
To test this I used one of my other blogs. Because I made a reblog with only tags with the blog thegirlsaresinging it did not essentially create a qrt. It is just a note in the original post. This will mean the notes will look very fucky because individual likes and reblogs are now per "qrt" instead of the entire post. It's weird. But for us rpers who don't usually mass reblog other people's posts or like them this isn't... as terrible? However if you make a resource or graphic and people are adding things in the main body, it might fuck up the notes and especially if you get noticed by the algorithim.
So. Anything new in the main body (aka any reply) = Essentially a new thread/qrt. If it's just a reblog with nothing added to it or only adding tags = it's notes added to the original post.
Can you still trim threads?
Thank fucking Christ yes we can I was so afraid this would break it.
So what does it all mean?
RP threads are actually less hit than the rest of the website with this awful update. However, if you make graphics or other types of original content for rpers, you might want to heavily consider adding something like to please only add commentary in the tags. However, if you want to reblog it with commentary such as an update, be prepared for the notes to look really fucky with it when people like and reblog it. I instead recommend you edit the OP post with your update and then reblog it again instead of doing a reblog with something new in the body.
