And Souma's route despite me being a bit put-off at first by his attitude towards Shinsengumi, it somehow convinced me when he was so sweet? And of course, I liked it for Miki, the more Miki the better :^) I also liked Iba's route bc the side of the plot that was so dangerous, risky, adventurous and sudden was amazing. But tbh, I don't like Iba's personality so much, his normal scenes were so off-putting. I felt like I had a worse version of Toma from Amnesia, I felt so pressured X'D
Yeah Iba really isn’t doing it for me. I keep rage quitting after I play a single scene with him. It’s annoying because I think he’s really cute when he’s pathetic and being bullied, but he’s the worse when he’s being really weird and manipulative. And like, I can’t stand Toma, but it seems at least that they meant for him to be like that. Toma is a nightmare and they intended every bit of it. Iba seems like some ignorant straight men writing what they think women like without even realising how toxic it is and that’s why it feels even more awful. Like I finished toma’s route and I was riveted the whole time since it was clearly meant to be a bit of a horror element. But for Iba it’s like “oh look! He’s willing to lie and manipulate you because he loves you so much! And if you try to leave, you’ll hurt his feelings :(“ like that’s a fucking red flag yikes.
Like I know that otome is never perfect and I expect a certain level of gross tropes but the rest of the haku cast have always been fairly decent in that regard. Even harada, I felt more respected by him!!
Anyway I will finish it eventually because Takeda is the funniest character ever written in Hakuouki.
Souma is a perfect Angel. And tbh I like when shinsengumi media show more of the flaws of the system so I wasn’t off-put by him too much at first but, once he showed himself to be so sweet and submissive, that’s when I fell for him since that’s my type. But I was so afraid that the game would fuck up his character so I didn’t actually finish it until after I saw souma-hen in April. And now he’s my perfect Angel and tbh I almost like him more than Okita??? Scandalous!!! Like souma makes it all worth it, he saved Shinkai for me. He’s finally actually my personal type of male character that’s so rare and I couldn’t be happier.

Not to mention I just generalny don't like yanderes if they aren't written well and not spoilering much, he wasn't so well-written? And I just don't like Mr. Perfects, sorry x'D And I ended up somehow siding with Takeda more because despite all the things he did, he was so much easier to read and relate to than Iba :/ Shame they didn't give Takeda's route XD
Yeah I also don’t like male yanderes when they are framed positively like, if their violent possessiveness is just justified? That is just too close to irl abusive male attitudes and I come to fiction to escape that Imao. And iba’s attitudes remind me way too much of actual men that have hurt me so my whole body just screams NO. And it sucks because his design is the most feminine and feminine men are my type…
I already hated Iba for how much of an asshole he was acting at the end of Souma’s route like bitch?? You knew Chizuru for like five minutes when she was 5. Don’t act like you own her? Freak. He even got souma super drunk in the bonus story stopppp only me/Souma’s partners are allowed to be mean to him! Consensually!!!
Totally offtopic but isn't that constant melody (I think they sung this song thrice in this) in Okita-hen Hakumyu musical Kagome Kagome? ;O I watched it like yesterday or a day before and I got a bit scared when Kazama began singing this... he activated my past experience train bc I got to this song when I was 12, I think? I got Vietnam flashbacks and I feel so called out right now xD
oh no, please feel free to ask me any question or talk about whatever! but to your question, no actually, if it's the melody i'm thinking of, it's the one that Chizuru sings as the folk song her father taught her, and the Minor key variation that is one of the general demon themes? it sounds very similar to kagome kagome as it was clearly composed to emulate old japanese warabe uta
even if you can't read music, i hope it's clear how the songs are similar. particularly how the 4th measure of both chizuru's song and kagome kagome have an identical melody. so good ears!!
most modern music these days are written with an 8-note scale, while old folk songs only use a five-note scale. And since there are less notes, it's easier for the songs to sound similar, if you listen to other japanese folk songs they can often sound quite alike
and well, ask questions about the hakumyu music at your own risk because i am actually a musician and i am liable to babble about the hakumyu music for eternity and i won't shut up
random fun fact, in the Souma music, Souma doesn't technically have his own leitmotif, his two personal themes are also shared with Chizuru, meanwhile Chizuru has her own personal themes that no one else uses and i just think that's sexy and accurate.
