she's trying to be a smartass, as per usual. its fun, flipping dennis' script on him . . . returning his energy, and getting up in his face to see what he'll do when challenged. [ yes, there are more predictable games to play, but calamity's never seen the fun in those. ] she expects him to get flustered. maybe start stammering, searching for words to send the metaphorical ball they toss back over to her. essentially, she expects anything but what he actually does.

there's no time to comprehend him leaning in, and far too much time lingering after to make sense of what follows. calamity makes a small, exasperated, incomprehensible noise . . . scrunching up her face involuntarily. and then she's frozen like that for a moment as if waiting for something else to follow. [ the hands on her hips are a cruel reminder that, despite her delusions and forced grandeur, even she can be rather simple. ]

it shouldn’t bother him that the other officers are having him watch someone they had arrested earlier, but it does. he was beginning to actually get somewhere on finding the deviant androids, and he was being told to stay back. and he couldn’t say no. connor had hardly reacted to the instructions, but maybe…. no, he wasn’t feeling anything either. of course not.

he had done a quick scan of the subject, more unconsciously than because he had a reason to. skunk thompson, as his file seemed to indicate, (records for him were messy, and certainly not taken down correctly by officers. there were notes added here and there that indicated officers were really not a big fan), had been arrested quite a few times. only a few involved actual violence, and it seemed that the threat level was relatively low.

so all connor gets to do is sit near him, while he waits for “the real cops” to get back. yellow light whirls on his forehead, as he decides to go over case notes in his head again. it seems like the only good way to make use of his time.

it seems like a waste . . . an empty theater when there's a very desperate guitarist exploring every corner they can for a gig. philly has carved itself out as a rather dead - end in her journey. she thinks, once she makes enough bussing and barbacking and whatnot, she'll head up to new york. in the here and now, however, there is dee. and even though they've left their guitar at their rented - out apartment, it's still fun to dream. this definitely is more of an amateur shakespeare productions kind of place, but they can't afford to be picky . . . and it was sweet of dee to subtly recommend breaking and entering into the place. paris bounds onto the stage, whirling around to face her with their arms wide out . . . full wingspan.

❝ don't i look like a natural up here ? wait, don't answer that. you'd have to see me with my equipment, ❞ a step to the side activates a very creaky floorboard. this place is probably older than the two of them combined. paris continues to walk the perimeter of the stage, mapping out where each amp would go in their mind. ❝ i'm pretty sure one riff off my electric would actually cave this place in. which would be so super cool, ❞

they feel silly. a little vulnerable, which is something they don't fully trust dee not to exploit. but that's okay, because by baring their soul like this, paris is essentially giving her permission to see how far she'll go. with no regard for the noise, they flop down onto their backside, legs slung over the edge of the stage to address her.
