Directed by Naoyuki Itou (Digimon: Data Squad, One Piece 3D2Y) and animated by the infamous Madhouse comes a gaming story unlike anything ya knew before... The story takes place in the year 2138 when virtual reality gaming is booming. Yggdrasil, a popular online game is quietly shut down one day. However, the protagonist Momonga decides to not log out. Momonga is then transformed into the image of a skeleton as "the most powerful wizard." The world continues to change, with non-player characters (NPCs) beginning to feel emotion. Having no parents, friends, or place in society, this ordinary young man Momonga then strives to take over the new world the game has become. This comes out 10 days before my birthday and seriously...I am pumped to check this out! I enjoy the likes of the anime Log Horizon but this one is unique as the protagonist isn't playing out as a mere hero in a virtual world turning real...he is the VILLAIN, the great evil, the supreme darkness! I don't think there has been any anime in the genre to do this before and looking at the video, I am excited to see what Overlord will bring to the table! Let's count down to the rise of our possible future dark master until then!
