Re-animator from the perspective of one of those other students has got to be the wildest fucking thing
You go to this very fancy school in Massachusetts, think Harvard level accreditation. It’s expensive, but the program is one of the best because they have several doctors and one of them is, like, the brain guy. Of course you want to learn from the brain guy, so you take his class, and it’s pretty small which means that you’ll probably know everyone’s names by the end of this. At the very least, you’ll know their faces.
Which is why you notice when a new guy shows up. People say he came over from Switzerland. He’s got like two facial expressions (severe and more severe) and the first day he’s there he doesn’t even??? Take any notes??? He just keeps breaking pencils at weird points in the lecture and one of those wasn’t even his (Dan gave it to him. There’s a rumor he’s sleeping with the Deans daughter but tbh it’s none of your business). And just when you think you can get out of this weird atmosphere, he tells the professor he’s lying and a fraud and they get into an argument??? He just got here, what the hell. And the professor really doesn’t like him, this little freak of a guy gets under his skin super easily so this cannot be the first time they’ve met.
But whatever. You’re just going to take this class and move on, weird guy notwithstanding. Let him be uppity. And for a while things are chill. At some point, weird guy (apparently his name is Herbert?) stops showing up to class but really that’s not a bother. It makes class go smoother at least.
Until in the span of like, what, a week? The Dean loses his mind after desecrating one of the corpses in the morgue (no one really buys that but then again no one can provide an alternative), then he, your professor and the Dean’s daughter Megan all die, several people that you are CERTAIN were corpses in the morgue tear up a whole floor, and the ONLY SURVIVORS are Herbert “your professor is a fraud” West and Daniel “absolutely sleeping with Megan” Cain.
The campus is absolutely traumatized. There are investigations. None of it makes any sense. You know there is no way those two aren’t involved because it’s all just too convenient. Why were they there? They were there when the Dean went mad too. But they’re let free and they disappear for a bit.
A few months go by and you’re still there. (Hypothetically of course, I don’t actually know how medical school works but I don’t think Lovecraft or the writers do either.) Things have gotten at least a little back to normal sans the 3 no-longer-corpses walking around. No one really likes talking about The Incident because that inevitably leads to questions which lead to theories and that never ends up anywhere good.
Suddenly. They’re fucking back. Somehow they are full doctors now (and also Peru civil war vets??? (And also live together???? (BY THE CEMETERY????))), and like the second they show up, body parts start going missing. There’s a cop hanging out around the hospital, asking questions about the two.
You try to convince yourself it’s not but really, you just can’t shake the feeling. Besides the missing body parts, though, everything seems alright. You catch Dan being really fucking weird with certain patients, and you wonder if he ever talked to someone about the whole dead girlfriend thing. Probably not. You don’t know him well enough to suggest therapy and in fact you do your best to keep your distance from the two altogether. Somethings happening in pathology too but then again, Graves is always a bit weird (you also don’t think he’s supposed to be holding onto the bodies from The Incident, but the police aren’t that great around here anyway. But still. Raw corpses??? All cobbled together like that??? Come on Graves.)
And then those no-longer-corpses break out and kill people AGAIN this time on the psych ward, and Dan and Herbert are NOWHERE TO BE FOUND you realize you have GOT to find another place to study because this is insane.
And of course there is no third movie so that’s where the story ends.
