*Vern shifts his attention to the dark sky, ignoring whatever nonsense Victor is failing to impress him with. It takes the dull patter of ink on the window to silence Victor. The spring sprite uneasily steps back. They keep their voices low, as if anything more than a whisper invites danger*
Is umm… that…?
Looks like it… guess you’ll be busy again.
*their phone notifications shatter the silence. The question waiting them puzzles the sprites. Do they repent? From what has any possible transgression cycling through Vern’s mind. It drains him, leaving his face pale. For him, it matters little which it could be*
*for Victor, his features darken. The weight of his own sins simmer just under his skin. Which the message could be referring to, he can guess. To his knowledge, and based on the weather, there is one thing that comes to mind. Glancing at Vern, it’s obvious to him how shaken the other is*
It probably means our overblots… it’s about the only thing we have in common
…. R-right….. then the umm… answer is um… easy…
*Vern shakily presses yes, while Victor stares at the prompt. Does he? Should he? The winter sprite had pushed himself too far, if hadn’t overblotted then…*
I suppose the answer doesn’t matter….

[The pop-up disappears, though the eerie air remains. Outside the window, a figure flies down from the main building to the botanical gardens.]
[A trail of feathers and ink are left behind. On the ground, a different winged figure, completely blot-colored, looks up with piercing gold eyes. It smiles, looking directly at Victor, then disappears.]
[How odd.]
