overburden conveyor bridge, Germany
- A letter for overburden people -
I’m so grateful for have my Savior Jesus Christ in the center of my life. Sometimes I feel that I’m alone or that I don’t have any importance for this world, but in these moments I can feel my Savior’s love. He is real. He lives and loves me too much that I can’t measure this. Sometimes I feel that nothing makes sense, that I’m lost, but I just need to look around and realize everything that He has done for me.
I can feel Thy love through the hymns, the people, the nature, the church programs, the scriptures, the prophets. Sometimes this feeling is too strong that I can’t keep inside me. I need to put in words or in actions. I know that everyone needs to feel it, and it available for everyone who put Christ in its life. I can’t prove that Christ lives, BUT I KNOW with all my heart. I know because I prayed and I received an answer.
Now I’m here, at church, listen to hymn and the Spirit is too strong that go beyond everything I know. One day, when I have children, I hope that my children and all my descendent can feel the same. If you feel lost, lonely, sad, hopeless, don’t worry because there is SOMEONE that cares about you. He knows you in your intimacy. He knows your joys, trials, challenges, dreams, goals, everything. The only thing that you need to do is allow/invite Him to enter in your life.
I know that sometimes is hard to focus on the Savior’s love, mainly when everything goes wrong. However Christ is hope, love, and that light in the end of the tunnel. In this moments you need to take a deeply breathe, think about yourself and how important you are. How big are God’s plan for you. We can see only a small part of what we are living here. But God knows everything. So we just need to trust on Him, do our part and let the rest with Him.
Maybe my thoughts doesn’t make senses for you that are reading or maybe I’m writing for myself, but what I’d like that you remember is that God is good all the time and He loves you deeply. He sent His son to die for us, because He trusts on us and knows our potential. You are gold, little child and shine a lot. Don’t give up. Never. You aren’t destined to fail. You matter.
I just felt the necessity to write these things. I hope have helped you, and remember you about things which you have already know, and only forget because of the world’s pressure.
Love,Carol.

Tailings And Overburden - May 2023 As you approach Ajo, Arizona, from the south on Highway 85, you will see a long, white, stripe across the landscape. As you get closer and closer to the town it becomes apparent that the stripe is not natural but is instead a man-made pile. That man-made pile and the darker, but larger, piles on the other side of the highway took 66 years to create and are tailings and overburden from the New Cornelia Open Pit Copper Mine which operated from 1917 to 1984. The New Cornelia Mine was the first open pit copper mine in Arizona and possibly would have been the first open pit copper mine in the US if the investors hadn’t been so sidetracked by experimentation in totally unworkable copper smelting techniques. The first mine was the Bingham Canyon Mine in Utah which began operations in 1906. The long white pile in these images is tailings (debris left after the refining process) and the darker pile built up around the open pit are overburden (rock that had to be removed to get to the ore layer.)
