So Overdo is basically the eternal pull of "is someone so cunty his levels of unhinged are immaterial or is someone so unhinged his levels of cunty are immaterial: the dilemma."
(Though I have to point out there is nothing Republican era about that hair; plus all the gold braid makes me think of Leonid Brezhnev's medals and I don't think that's the vibe they are going for.)
Anyway. Wang Churan is just as gorgeous as he is...
So, they were sweet together...

But then one day they had less luck on the train that Wallace and his girl in a previous FWSC Republican adaptation:

Outdo really has the potential to become one of the rare Republican era dramas I like. The chemistry is on fire.
You can't blame the man going all insane af when he learns the love of his life presumably faked her death only to reappear as his future sister-in-law. I don't mind an illicit tryst.
Someone watched Goblin and said:"I want this in Republican China."

It feels like The Maid's Revenge, all that toxic angst and misunderstandings and warlords, but with budget, female lead with brains and script with logic.
Overdo is giving real mini drama energy and this is coming from someone who adored the melodramatic, toxic mess that was Siege in Fog.
And as I always ask: why does Wang Churan insist on giving us absolutely nothing in the face? Girl, you're in a Fei Wo Si Cun story, and you're getting choked by that beautiful man. How are you completely dead in the eyes? No fear, no anger, no sadness, no arousal, etc.?
She is so gorgeous but unfortunately even more boring as an actress.
