The purple goop coming out of Tak's eyes are not tears. It's a genetic leftover from back when Irkens would attract mates with the softness of their cheeks. If rejected, they begin to leak this goop to make their cheeks extra soft and slippery. So yeah, it usually comes out when they are denied their mates or potential mates and most of them have no clue why.
