Confession #1052
Do you ever see a character and think that if people didn't get horny over them, they would realize how lame they actually are as a character?
“Catra from She Ra is extremely overrated. Not only people (show and in real life) easily forgive her for everything she's done (not the mention they don't hold her accountable for ANYTHING she did wrong and hate anyone who doesn't kiss her ass), but you can't even look at fanart of OTHER She Ra characters without seeing her. What I mean is: when I search her name, it's mostly her and her alone, but when I search for Adora, almost HALF of the results have even Catra or Catradora in it! It's so irritating and that's mostly the reasons why I don't like Catra.”
Who else thinks JJJ is a little bit overrated now?
I woke up with this sudden urge to defend fans of popular or “overrated” characters
Back in my days, “woobification” meant making a character that is canonically someone who chooses to murder people or is explicitly morally wrong into a cute little guy that you feel sorry for, often by using their canon or, more often than not, fanon trauma as an excuse for their actions.
Now “woobification” is thrown around at people who relate or feel strongly for literally any character (Hero or villain), deeply sympathize with their fully canon trauma, wish to explore and/or expand on that part of their history further in fanfiction (Sometimes to cope with their own, real trauma), or God forbid, enjoy it when the character´s friends and/or family give a shit about them, something antis will always twist and make out to be this horrible thing, of course, because everyone knows a fanfiction focusing on a particular character clearly means the author thinks the world revolves around their fave or should in canon, there is no other explanation, and obviously the other characters´ fans can´t write their own fanfiction, the poor dears, they are stuck having to read fics centered around the “overrated”, woobified characters. Because how dare authors write fics centered around their favorite characters instead of catering to the likes and needs of literally everyone else in the fandom!
“I think Chloe from Ladybug gets far too much credit in people wanting her to get redemption, she rarely faces actual consequences for her bullying and antics in sabotaging people she doesn’t like as well as responsible for more Kaunas than any other characters. Let’s not forget that she intentionally almost Got a train full of people killed so she could play hero which she never apologized for or showed any guilt and her only consequences are remarks from her mum. after all she had done I hope the shows sticks having her as a villain.”
“Adrien is overrated. I never cared about him. The number of people who try to push him on me has made me not want to like this character, I was never interested in him and I’m even less interested in him now.”
“Honestly, I think Marinette, Adrien and Chloe are all overrated characters who get WAY to much screentime that could be going to characters that have little to no personality/development/depth. TO BE FAIR, two of those characters ARE the main characters I know, but the show could at least try to develop the other characters too at least before they give them a miraculous. I want to see more of my girl Alya or my dude Nino! I just feel like if they really couldn’t handle a lot of characters then they shouldn’t of add those many characters in the first place.”
