Father Heyuannia huangi brooding his nest of speckled, blue-coloured eggs
I also offer this citipati sketch today
I got a 3D Printer! I have an idea for a tabletop Dinosaur survival game - would anyone be interested in such a thing? The dice are my own sculpt featuring dromaeosaur claws for 1 and 2, and theropod footprints for 3-6. The figurine is a Citipati oviraptorosaur model I made, printed at roughly 1:60 scale on a 30mm base. More to come.
first attack of the month of greedysalvation's Roy enjoying some rays!
Heyuannia huangi bears the distinction of being the first oviraptorid found in China (the family had previously only been known in Mongolia.) It was a medium-sized oviraptorid, with a toothless, short and deep snout, and short arms and digits. Multiple fossils have been found of this species, including one which may retain possible reproductive organs. Heyuannia fossils also include hundreds, if not thousands of eggs. Preservation of the pigments biliverdin and protoporphyrin in the eggshells of these eggs indicate that they were blue-green in color. This coloration allowed for both camouflage and sexual signalling, as well as protection from the harsh UV light of the desert sun.
Art Fight mass attack, featuring my favourite clade of dinosaurs. This was a lot of fun to work on, oviraptorosaurs are always so fun to draw.
