"Although research suggests that people derive more happiness from buying life experiences than material objects, almost no studies have examined how people actually feel while consuming real-world experiential and material purchases. ... Results suggest that material and experiential purchases deliver happiness in two distinct flavors: Material purchases provide more frequent momentary happiness over time, whereas experiential purchases provide more intense momentary happiness on individual occasions."
i knew it
my project of filling my life with perfect things rather than doing exciting things will come to fruition eventually
or the real question what gives non-momentary happiness ?
I have been making a comprehensive list of all my possessions, their importance, (ir)replaceability, emotional and monetary value. Not entirely sure why I started but now that I have it has opened the floodgates for evaluating and weeding out things I don’t need or want. The idea (it is becoming apparent) is to become more considerate/mindful of the possessions I accumulate and how I regard them.
Knitting
Someone on my Ravelry friends list--who was in a knitting group with me about 6 years ago --is knitting 100 hats from her stash.
I am inspired. In my process to minimize the shit I own, I need to include yarn, but I like knitting and want to play with the yarn, and selling yarn on ebay is tedious. So... knitting a ton of little projects sounds like a plan.
Who wants a hat? I dont think I can get 100 hats out of my stash... but I'd bet at least 10. And then, less yarn sitting around! I would, one day, like to be the kind of person who just buys yarn for a project and manages to have very litte left over.
Ha. Haha. If you are a knitter/crochetter you think that is a very funny joke.
