Have you read North & South by Elizabeth Gaskell? Have you watched the miniseries on Netflix? . I read the book last year and recently finished the BBC series (which is currently on Netflix) and I have to say that it was so well done! I have heard North and South be compared to Pride and Prejudice many times and while I did find some similarities between the two, North & South showed a different side of life during that time. Where as P&P focuses on society, the wealthy and the country, N&S shows you the other side of society. The people who lived in smoke filled towns, worked in factories and had to scrape by just to feed their families. It was very different and I really enjoyed seeing a different side of those times. I highly recommend North and South if you’ve enjoyed Austen or if you’ve ever wondered what the people who don’t have “$5,000 a year” live 😂. .
