Name: Claire Ainsworth Age: 22 Power: Duplication Major/Minor: Dance & Music House: Zeta Faceclaim: Blake Lively Status: OPEN
POWER
Claire has good control over her ability, though it tends to get carried away when she’s over excited. She has no problem using her duplicates for what she sees as menial tasks; she’s been known to send them to classes in her place so that she might practice in the dance studio instead. Claire has very little interest in advancing her power further at this point as it’s serving her well the way it is.
PERSONALITY
✔ OUTGOING, POSITIVE, CREATIVE
✘ OBLIVIOUS, CARELESS, IGNORANT
BACKGROUND
When the Ainsworth family found out they were expecting a child, it was the best news either of the young couple could have asked for. They’d tried to have a baby for years but to avail, and had almost resigned themselves to the possibility of children not being a part of their future. And so when twins came along instead of the one baby they’d been preparing for, they were ecstatic. Claire and Christian Ainsworth. Claire was the elder by six minutes, a perfect little girl like her parents had always wanted. Despite the fact that they loved both of their children equally, Claire always seemed to get that little bit more attention when they were growing up. Their parents had wanted a girl right from the beginning and now they had one, but they also had a little boy that came along with her. Claire never really noticed the divide between herself and her twin as the years went on; she had a sunny personality and loved her brother more than anything, the positivity cultivated in her by her parents clouding her vision of what was truly happening. While Claire was doted on and spoiled and practically lauded on a pedestal, Christian became an afterthought. He was quiet and serious, much less endearing than his elder twin, and commanded much less attention.
Claire was always by his side though, no matter what happened. It took her a few years to realise that her brother didn’t get nearly as much attention and love as she did and so she tried to compensate that with her own love and attention. It didn’t really matter what she did, Christian just didn’t want her around. He seemed to resent her although she held nothing but love for him and never seemed to notice the awful looks or measures he took to keep her away. Claire continued to be positive about the whole thing, no matter how annoying to Christian it was, although she did enjoy her time as the apple of her parent’s eye. They’d put her in ballet classes when she was younger and she enjoyed them immensely, so much so that she decided she wanted to be a ballerina. Often she’d put on shows in their living room, which her parents would cheer wildly for and Christian would ignore altogether. But things started to change when the twins gained their powers. Claire’s arrived on the morning of their birthday, waking up before the sun had risen out of excitement. But when she woke up she found another version of herself sitting on the end of her bed. And by the window. And on the other side of the room and by the mirror and…everywhere. The only person she told about the whole thing was Christian, who revealed similar strange things had been happening to him. The twins kept their powers a secret but soon found it wasn’t just their respective abilities they possessed; it became apparent very quickly that they had some kind of warped telepathic link between themselves, and could hear each other’s thoughts and feel each other’s feelings. Claire was more than happy about that because she thought it was cool, though chose to ignore the barrage of negative emotions her brother was feeling almost constantly and tried to make him feel some positive ones instead.
Their parents eventually found out about their powers when a letter from Morgana Academy arrived in the mail, but the fourteen year old twins were banned from attending. They could both control their powers well enough and their parents were concerned about being separated from their precious daughter than the fact the twins were mutants. Claire knew Christian wanted to attend the school more than anything and tried to reason with her parents but to no avail. They continued their relatively normal lives in an Arizona suburb until it was time for college, at which point Christian decided to attend perhaps the furthest one from home he could find whilst Claire stayed local. Their telepathic link still worked with distance though with much less intensity than before, and she missed her twin. Eventually another letter arrived about Morgana’s new college program, which she knew Christian would have gotten a letter about and would have taken up immediately, and so she did too despite her parent’s protests. She was never really interested in anything to do with the college, she simply wanted to be with her brother with again, and when she found him in the school grounds on her first day she was ecstatic — though Christian seemed less so. Now she tries to be around her twin as much as possible in between practising ballet, trying to catch up with him on the time they’d been apart. Even though Claire’s end of the psychic link is much more prominent than her brother’s, she’s finding it hard to ignore the negativity he has in his mind — specifically the negativity about her.
CONNECTIONS
Scarlett Niles: She's been giving Scarlett private ballet lessons for the last few weeks, though the younger girl refuses to acknowledge her as anything more than an acquaintance outside of their classes and wants to keep them a secret. Claire doesn't really understand why she wouldn't want to tell anyone about what she's doing, especially with the great progress she's making, but is trying her hardest not to let the secret slip anyway.
Kaylie Croft: Claire started hanging out with Kaylie not long after she arrived at the school and she's become very protective of the younger girl. They try to have sleepovers every week and spend a lot of time together; she's the closest friend besides Christian that Claire has ever had. She knows that Kaylie is sometimes mean and cruel though doesn't believe it's her own fault and tries to stop that whenever she can, and sometimes she feels almost powerless to help her friend.
Stella Murray: They bumped into each other a while ago when Claire was thinking about joining the photography club and passed it up -- at least, until Stella spoke to her. They like to go on walks together into the woods to take pictures of the wildlife, both of them using their powers to get better pictures. Claire is especially efficient with her picture taking because she often sends dozens of duplicates out at a time, allowing her to photograph several different areas in a fraction of the time.
Name: Michael Powers Age: 18 Power: Flight House: Zeta Faceclaim: Josh Hutcherson Status: OPEN
POWER
Michael’s ability manifested itself when he was 12. Growing up in circumstances that did not foster his power as a gift but rather a curse, he has learned to be very cautious about who he shows it to, and when he is nervous he sometimes finds himself involuntarily rising from the ground. However, his power has grown and he is capable of controlling it under normal circumstances. He loves the feeling of hurtling through the air, and as part of his fun-loving personality, finds the thrill of the wind in his hair a better rush than anything.
PERSONALITY
✔ CHARMING, OPTIMISTIC, WITTY
✘ VULNERABLE, CAUTIOUS, INDECISIVE
BACKGROUND
Michael doesn't remember his mother much; she died when he was three years old, and Michael was raised by his loving father in a small town in North Dakota. Despite the difficulties of single-handedly raising a child and keeping on top of his carpenter business, Michael's father succeeded and he raised a charming, friendly boy. The family grew to three at one point when they got a dog, that a young Michael named "Mr Grumpy" because of the way he always sighed in a melancholic fashion when he was sat by himself. Mr Grumpy was loved immensely by Michael and he took the dog everywhere with him -- whether he was helping old ladies cross the street or pranking his classmates on the weekend, Mr Grumpy was always with Michael.
He discovered his power when he was 12, to his own surprise. He'd gone up to the attic with Mr Grumpy just for fun, and he'd come across a photo album in one of the many boxes. Michael was so engrossed in the pictures that he didn't notice he was leaning on a fragile shelf that soon snapped. The sound startled Mr Grumpy who jumped out of the window, and Michael didn't even think before jumping after him. They both would have died if his power hadn't kicked in, leaving Michael hovering in the air clutching his dog. It was an astonishing discovery, but one of the neighbours witnessed the whole incident. That night, as the small family was eating dinner, smoke and flames began to billow through the house. There was just enough time to get out of the house before it was consumed by the fire and destroyed. The police report said it was an accident, but Michael couldn't help but think it was anything but.
They were forced to relocate to another town, and Michael watched as his father spiralled into depression. The house had been something that his mother had helped build and the loss hit his father hard -- so much so he barely even reacted when Michael told him about his power. So Michael decided he had to find his father someone else, but all the women he set his father up with weren't compatible. Until Jane came along. The man and woman fell head over heels and married, but after the wedding it soon became apparent Jane wasn't as nice as she led them to believe. She found out about Michael's power and had him shipped off to Morgana immediately, stating it was for his best interest but Michael knew it was because she hated mutants. He doesn't particularly want to be at the school and misses his father and dog, but has resolved himself to stay silent about Jane. As long as his father is happy, that's all that matters.
CONNECTIONS
Yoona Song: Michael and Yoona were dropped off at the academy on the same day, and as their fathers bonded so did they. They've been best friends since day one and can usually be found with each other, Yoona mostly dragging Michael around on another adventure or something equally strange that he doesn't understand but finds amusing anyway. Because their fathers also became friends they spend a lot of time together in the holidays as well as at school.
Isaac Niles: Michael and Isaac are similar in a lot of ways; both generally nice and quiet guys with a witty streak, and they've become good friends over the past few months. Mostly Michael will hang out with Isaac when he wants a break from Yoona's antics, but sometimes he'll invite Isaac to tag along with them for the fun. Isaac is also usually the person he'll go to for advice about most things.
Sofia Macklin: Michael and Sofia clash a lot, mostly because Sofia enjoys antagonising him. Michael tries to ignore her for the most part, but it's hard when it happens so often and on occasion he lashes out. It's frustrating because Sofia doesn't seem to care how much she's annoying Michael, and any reaction she gets out of the boy just appears to be funny. Sometimes Michael feels stupid getting so worked up but Sofia is often relentless.
