Restless Hearts || Self Para
Kendall wasn't sure if she was able to open her eyes. She wasn't sure if she wanted to open her eyes. She was still a little terrified of what she would see. But her head was quiet. Not even the soft buzzing in the background that was usually there. It was odd, and she wasn’t sure which she preferred. But there were no traces of the voices there. She could still see her face though. Even if it was just in her imagination this time. Her brows furrowed minutely as she slowly came back to herself, feeling groggy and disoriented. Tidbits of what had happened before she blacked out were coming back to her, and she felt her heart begin to pick up, the beeping on the monitor speeding up with it. “Kenny?” She heard her mother’s voice through the fog, and dig her best to open her eyes. “Kenny are you okay? Doctor!” She called out, placing a hand on Kendall’s arm. Kendall wished she could pull away from her, but she couldn’t seem to get her limbs to work. “I think she’s waking up.” Kendall could feel hands around her, checking her IV, the monitors. “Parker,” she whispered, forcing her eyes open.
“What was that?” Olivia asked, her brows drawn down as she watched her daughter. Kendall blinked her eyes a few times, everything fuzzy before it came into focus, but still blurry around the edges. “Parker,” she said again, louder this time, her eyes widening. “Parker, where’s Parker? Where did they take him? Where did he go?” She asked urgently, attempting to push herself up but being pushed back down. “Whoa, whoa, take it easy. You’re gonna make yourself sick.” The doctor said softly, shaking his head. “You’ve got a pretty heavy mix in your right now, you’re gonna be groggy for a while.” He explained. “I’m not groggy, where’s my brother?” She asked, turning to Olivia. Olivia looked at her, almost dumbfounded, unsure what to say. “I — He’s been arrested, Kendall.” She said softly. Kendall’s eyes widened, shaking her head quickly, ignoring the way it made her dizzy. “What? No. No he didn’t do anything, I swear. I swear, he never did anything.” She said, her voice scratchy as she pleaded. “Kendall, honey, shh,” Olivia attempted to soothe her, frowning when Kendall jerked away from her hand. “He confessed, sweetheart.” Kendall’s eyes widened, her stomach turning. He confessed? He confessed to this? Was he really that desperate to get away from her? Oh, god, what was going to happen to her.
“Did you know he ran a fighting ring?” Kendall’s brows furrowed in confusion, shaking her head. “What?” She whispered. “He confessed to running a fighting ring, and to putting that boy in the hospital. He said it was all his idea.” She sighed heavily, shaking her head. “Where is he?” Kendall repeated. “He’s still at the station. Your dad is down there now, but he hasn’t called, I don’t — I’m not really sure what’s going to happen.” Kendall wet her lips. “I want to see him.” Kendall let out a nervous laugh, shaking her head. “What? Honey no, you need to stay here-“ “Then bring him here.” Kendall interrupted. “They can’t do that sweetheart. You need to stay here, you had a pretty — a pretty big episode.” She said quietly, her brows furrowing as she looked up to the doctor. “Kendall, how long have you been hearing voices?” Kendall’s brows furrowed, shaking her head. “I don’t know, since I was like six, whatever,” she shrugged, dismissing it. The doctor’s eyes widened slightly. “How long have you been hearing this voice? Does she have a name?” Kendall let out a noise of frustration, squeezing her eyes shut.
“I don’t know okay, a year? I don’t fucking know, I just call her a cunt, because she’s a fucking cunt.” She snapped, shaking her head. The doctor pressed his lips together and nodded, jotting some things down on his clipboard. “I want. To see. Parker.” She repeated, letting out a heavy breath. “Kendall, we’re going to have to do some tests, but it seems very likely to me that you have schizophrenic tendencies.” Olivia’s eyes widened, gasping softly. “She has schizophrenia?” She asked softly. That caught Kendall’s attention. “I’m crazy?” She whispered, turning to the doctor. “No, no not schizophrenia. More along the lines of schizoaffective disorder. Like I said, we have to do some tests. But the sooner we do them, the sooner we can get you on the right medications and get you the right treatment, that way your episodes will be few and far between. You’ll be capable of living a perfectly normal life.” Kendall’s eyes narrowed. “I’m living a perfectly normal life right now. The only thing I need is to get out of here and see Parker. I need to see Parker.” She repeated, a slight whine to her voice. “Kenny, you have to listen to the-“
"I don’t have to listen to anyone! I just need to see Parker.” She exclaimed, breathing heavily. “Kendall Olivia,” Olivia started, shutting her mouth when Kendall cut her off. “Don’t call me that.” She said firmly. “Kendall, your mother is right. You need to stay here and get better.” Kendall swallowed roughly, shaking her head. “No. No. I’m not doing anything until I see Parker. You’re not doing anything to me until I see my brother. I want to see my brother.” She did her best to cross her arms over her chest, careful of the needle in her arm, the crook of her arm already bruising from her earlier outburst. Olivia sighed heavily, running a hand through her hair and looking up to the doctor. The doctor gave a small nod toward the door, closing the door gently when Olivia followed him to the hall. “It’s up to you what to do. She’s a minor, and she does have the right to make her own decisions. But you’re also her mother, if you feel she’s a risk to herself or others, we can go by your decision.” Olivia sighed, shaking her head. “No, no she’ll hate me even more than she already does. It has to be her decision.” The doctor nodded sadly. “Just — I’ll see what I can do.” She said softly, pushing the door to Kendall’s room and stepping back inside, sitting back down beside Kendall. Kendall clenched her jaw tightly, glancing over to Olivia. “I want to see Parker.” She repeated. Olivia nodded, chewing at her lower lip. “We’ll see what we can do.”
