reading tea leaves ;

“junmyeonnie!” eve waves to the male trainee from her seat in the diner. in the months since they worked in an eval together, they’ve gotten into a routine of taking turns bringing tea for each other, usually to have over breakfast. sure enough, there are two thermoses on the table next to eve’s tray, along with her own usual glass of water that she drinks at every meal. as junmyeon reaches the table and sets his own tray down, she pushes one towards him.
“this is a new kind of black tea that i haven’t tried yet,” she says. “when we were in jeju, i actually went out right when we got there and went back to the beach. on the way back, i found a cute little shop that had all these different kinds of teas, so i picked out a few! i haven’t had a chance to try any of them yet, because i figured it’d be more fun if we try them together.”
as she speaks, she unscrews the lid of her own thermos and blows gently down into it, watching as steam rises from the hot liquid within. she unlocks her phone where it lies next to her tray, tapping the sequence of buttons to pull up her recent pictures and view the one of the tea’s package. “they’re tea leaves, and it actually says it’s chocolate flavored tea. it might end up being horrible and weird, but there’s no harm in trying it, right?”
