"that doesn't sound like you." he can't see callum from this angle, his back against callum's chest, but he can picture his face like he's looking right at it. all things considered, it's amazing he's been here as long as he has without anyone visiting, never mind the nosiest person he knows. it's the longest he's gone without seeing them since they met. for the best though; bri's only been here a week, but he brought the tightness in theo's chest back with him. "he's...we've known each other a long time, you know?" depending on how you count it. "he's really not so bad if you don't let him talk too long." and then, more needling than serious, "if he's that annoying, you don't have to hang out with him."

he's never been a hide under the blankets and hope it goes away type of guy. they have access to cameras (lots of cameras) (why does this place need this many cameras?) and people all over the camp and also, like, common sense -- and if he has to go through those cameras to prove that they're stuck in the center of some kind of cannibal commune instead of whatever it is sydney thinks is happening, he will. he can't leave the screens anyways, as dark as it is only a few feet away, and he's not keen on letting the only other person down here get much farther.

he's also not much of a jump-scare guy unless he's relatively safe, so he's keeping the screens in the periphery of his vision as he scrolls through. they're reflecting off sydney's eyes anyways, the blue lighting her up in profile, tiny little squares of trees and movement he can only see if he pays attention. sydney will see whatever it is before he does. "what are you expecting to see? like, a graveyard we didn't know about? the camp's secret morgue?"

and yet he never seems to find anything all that interesting. everyone is more or less the same, he's found, with the same goals as him, just a little less follow-through. riv's ... riv's not different, exactly, but he's got a lot more for joss to sink his teeth into. more of a handful. wording, he thinks in riv's voice, and he pushes the side of his foot against the side of riv's, some weak attempt at grounding both of them. "i'm trying to find something worth analyzing. been fucking zeros, but i'm an optimist. i'll find it."

did he. everyone saying his performance on the field as of late (middling) is beau's influence probably feels real vindicated now -- beau's gone for a month and trace starts earning his keep again. he's seen the post-game interviews. can't really bring himself to care now that beau's in his arms, smiling up at him like a cat who already knows he's got his charge wrapped around his fingers. trace rests his hands on the small of beau's back, already thinking about tonight -- the end of beau's tour, their reunion, trace's team winning. there's a lot to celebrate, and no one knows how to celebrate better than beau, expect maybe trace when he's around beau. "so much. you have no idea. the time difference was killing me."

"yeah." dead weight does have a bad habit of hanging around. he thinks of his clothes from that night, the police officer who stuck his jacket in an airtight bag the second it came off his body. after his case was closed, they told him he could come pick up his things from the station. like he'd want that memory, like he'd ever be able to wash off jodie and scottie and everyone else. he feels them when the weather starts to turn to fall, plastering his hair to his head. he must've scrubbed years off his life trying to get clean. "it comes back. i think it's easier to carry it." easy for him to say, years after the fact. he doesn't even remember their voices enough to be haunted by them.

he already failed to listen, so he doesn't start now, tugging beau down by the collar of his shirt (it's a loose shirt, so the tugging doesn't do much, but at least he doesn't have to worry about stretching it out more. and he gets a perfect view of beau's perfect collarbone like this, a happy, if incidental, bonus). he doesn't want to stay still, at least not with beau just out of reach like this; if beau wants to sit down and let trace touch him, though, trace might be a little better behaved. "i'm staying still!"

rill tastes, mostly, like the city smells, which love thinks would be less appealing if it were attached to anyone else. it's less smog and more water, a sharp smell settling in the back of her throat every time she gasps, and she's been doing that a lot. rill shifts when it speaks, and they rock their hips back down, chasing the pressure deep inside them. she can't look at rill when she speaks, her voice more desperate than seductive, "all yours," chest burning as she thinks about kept and claimed and had. they press their nails into rill's sides, probably not even breaking skin, but at least she's leaving indentations. "whatever you want."

"not what i sound like," he replies, in a voice that, now that he's thinking about it, does sound a lot like that, half-whiny and not-quite-generic-american. kind of embarrassing, honestly. but he's easy at the best of times, and it's the day after his shot, so he's been running hot since he woke up with callum wrapped around him, so he'll drop it. "you do need to let off some steam. loosen up. relax." theo's probably relaxing more than callum is, pulling them both back into the sheets. he doesn't press himself against callum so much as he gently suggests that callum moves a little lower down, but it has the same effect. "hi."
