Skiddaw from Ashness Bridge by Matthew James Turner Via Flickr: © M J Turner Photography || Website || Facebook || Twitter || Instagram || Etsy || Pinterest || 500px || Tumblr || Online Shop || Capturing Carlisle Shop || After a wonderful sunset seen above Derwentwater, I descended to the nearby Ashness Bridge which was unusually quiet for such a lovely evening. The afterglow of the sunset enhanced the mountain profile of Skiddaw in the distance, and the clouds overhead provided some atmosphere. I loved the large and lush ferns on this bank of Ashness Gill so decided to make these the foreground focal point leading towards the bridge itself. This packhorse bridge originally dates from the 18th century, but was later widened in the 20th century to make way for modern means of traffic. It is arguably one of the most visited, and most photographed, locations in the whole National Park.
Row Bridge | Cumbria, England Also known as Packhorse Bridge, Row Bridge is a single arch made of slate segments thought to have been constructed in the 18th century. Sadly its top has been concreted but this only detracts slightly from its overall charm. Photography by Perry Dark.
