Any thoughts or HC's on alphas with mental handicaps? Like Noel Fisher's character in The Hatfields and McCoys. I was just wondering how they would act, if they would be able to bond or act "alpha-like" with an omega if it came down to it.
Sorry for taking so long to answer, But I’m here now. First of all thanks for the question ^^ now to the answer.
I’ll assume you’re talking about mentally challenged or metally ill people here. If that’s not what you meant I apologize before hand. But here it goes, my headcanons:
• Depending on the condition an Alpha may have his or her scent be faintened by their recurrent desire to appear “invisible” and smaller than they actually are. This is particularly more common in anxious and depressive Alphas.
• Although Alphas don’t nest, many that suffer from PTSD and Panick Attacks will take on the habit. When mateless they will try to make the best they can with things they take from close friends and family. When mated they will always have their mate build one for them, and if not around they will just take as many things they can from their mate and toss it on the nearest closet and just hide there for the rest of the evening/night, or until they mate gets home.
• Alphas are naturally highly vigilant and always looking out for any threats. So it makes the job of dragging an Alpha out of it’s ‘nest’ to any one, family or mate, harder than it would be if it was any of the other dynamics. This reality shows itself even harsher for Alpha x Alpha couples. The one suffering from the disorder will always have that nagging instinctive reminder that “there’s another Alpha in your territory while you’re vulnerable. Stay away!” making things more difficult.
• Treatment and therapy sections for any sort of mentality ill Alpha is preferably held in private and alone with their therapist. If mated some, usually the more complicated cases, will require the presence of their mate in their sections. Not in a participatory way, but thier presence there is already very helpful.
• Needless to say Alphas without family and a mate usually suffer the most in their way through recovery. And sadly when not met with such results… they compose the biggest suicide rates among the mentally ill.
• Autistic and ADHD Alphas usually show themselves to be very good with kids and toddlers. They are simple minded, have a lot of energy and don’t ask too much from the Alpha. So they feel comfortable around them, you can usually see them as volunteers in children’s hospitals or day cares.
• Alphas that struggle with agoraphobia usually are the stay-at-home husband/wife, while their mates take upon themselves to be the breadwinner. And they are excellent at it. But they never stop thinking that they are being a burden, they keep on thinking that it’s a coward act to stay locked inside while their mate goes to work. “They were the ones that were supposed to provide and protect them, right?”.
• The most severe cases of any mental disorder don’t take away the ability of an Alpha to mate per se, they can still do it phisically, but they will never be able to have any sort of stable relationship. Severe cases show to be just very agressive and child-minded people. In constant need of assistance and supervision. They also end up being overly attached to omega caretakers or family members and much more aggressive towards any Alpha.
• Alphas with mental illnesses are the ones that show the most negative reactions to tragedies or a sudden change in their day-to-day lives. Like the death of a loved one or having to move, for example.
• All in all, Alphas are less likely to seek for help by themselves and are harder to deal with at the beginning, but given time and the necessary support, love and treatment they can strive for a mostly normal and fulfilling life. As a happy and fully operating Alpha.
