"So how are young Ezra's studies going, then?" Depa regarded Caleb's Padawan with a warm smile.
"Oh, um, they're going great Master Billaba. Master Caleb and I were about to go work on influencing animals with the Force," Ezra said, shifting from foot to foot.
Caleb suppressed the urge to laugh at Ezra's awkwardness. "He's better at it than I was at his age," he said, putting a hand on Ezra's shoulder. His Padawan beamed with pride, but Ezra's expression dimmed a little when Caleb added, "So I'm going to start him on the hard stuff today."
"Well then," Depa said. "I'll let you two get to it. Hopefully Ezra won't cause any stampedes." She winked at Caleb.
"Oh come on that only happened once!" he blurted out before he could stop himself.
Ezra turned to give him a raised eyebrow. "When did-"
"Drop it, my very young apprentice." Caleb said. He glared at his former Master, who was not even trying to conceal her grin. "And you too, my very old Master!"
Depa laughed, then opened her mouth to respond-
"Kanan? Are - oh! Sorry, I didn't realize you were still asleep!"
Kanan rolled over in his bunk and blinked the grogginess out of his eyes. Ezra was standing in the doorway, a silhouette against the harsh light coming in from the corridor.
"Don't worry about it Ezra," Kanan said. "Go ahead outside, I'll be with you in a few. Try to find a loth-cat."
Ezra blinked in confusion. "A...loth-cat?"
Kanan sat up and slid off the bunk. "You heard me. I'm going to start you on something new today. How would you like to influence the mind of an animal?"
