the grand romance

Built by the Barker family in Fort Bragg, CA in 1990. Debut in 1993 as the Petaluma Queen on the Petaluma River.

Relocated to Napa, then Vallejo and then Long Beach in 2021. After a history of problems and run-ins with State and local officials moved back to Norcal just north of the Cal Maritime campus.

Been sitting and rotting ever since and pretty much gutted by fire and now lies partially sunken in the Bay.

The Georgia Queen measures an impressive 230 ft long,64 ft wide and a towering 68 ft tall and features three grand ballrooms with over 15,000 square feet of dining space, a 5,000 square foot, fully open-air top deck with patio seating. The entire boat encompasses a total of 38,000 square feet. She can carry 1,000 passengers plus 200 crew, which makes her the size of a small cruise ship.

Page 11. ---- Trillium and Bluebell, the biggest ships in the Toronto Transportation Commission ferryboat fleet, are in drydock in Keating Channel. The two paddle-wheel ferries have carried their last load of holiday-makers for this year, and are up for overhaul. Hulls scaled and repainted, rudders tested, sea valves, renewed, and engines refitted, they will come off the chocks ready to face the picnic season of 1933. In the picture at the left above the Trillium is shown in the floating dock, and, nearer the camera, the Bluebell dismantled and waiting her turn to be taken out of the water. Centre, one of the Bluebell’s fifteen-foot paddle wheels is shown out for inspection. At right is a view of the Bluebell’s side, showing the place where the paddle wheel whirls when in action.
