The Use of Titles in Serenetism
(Or at the very least my own interpretation)
I’ve been very deliberate so far in the titles that I choose to invoke the protective spirits of Serenitism. Sailor Moon is still a work of fiction, who draws its influences from already established symbolism, such as the associations of Hellenic mythology, the ideology of symbols, traits and other items of association that are much older than the franchise itself. While I believe that any person can name the Ladies as they wish, and that the characters of Sailor Moon are very good examples of realized goddess-figures… For me it is still deifying something that is much older than they are, and deifying the creations of another human.
Additionally I feel that if the characters of Sailor Moon were flesh and blood, they probably wouldn’t appreciate the process if being put on an untouchable pedestal of goddess-hood. The whole point of the civilian identities of the Senshi in-universe is to humanize them. Sure they may be the protectors if the world but they are still human, still inherently flawed. I believe that the true strength of their abilities lie in the fact that they are granted them despite their flaws. As such, the true strength of Serenitism is that these figures are only a basis (not THE basis) of a much higher Power.
So. Titles! In my personal invocation I do my best to never call the Ladies by either their civilian identities and rarely even their Senshi names. If I must elaborate further than ‘Lady’ or ‘Lord’ then I address them by their given Titles, usually in relation to their Realms Of Influence. This decision for me at least allows me to concentrate on who exactly I am seeking aid from, in a larger scope. Glancing around the small tumblr audience of Serenitists I see that I’m not the only one who is purposeful in that manner if separation, so I hope this blurb makes sense!
For organizational purposes however, I will include the Senshi names in the tags! It’s just so much easier that way ~ tomorrow I will work on an actual glossary of Titles for convenience’s sake
