Vine-Twisted Birch Stave (SOLD)
This is a stave I constructed from a length of Vine-Twisted Birch wood, that I am selling for $123 + Shipping. It measures approximately 32 inches/81 centimeters in length.
This unique piece was crafted from a bough of Scottish Birch, which was naturally twisted by the helical track of a honeysuckle vine that wrapped about the branch as it grew. After acquiring the spiraled bough of birch and carefully extracting the remnant of vine which had impressed itself into the wood, I debarked it and allowed the piece to cure until it felt appropriately dry and sturdy. Once fully dried, I proceeded to assiduously sand and smooth the surface of the wood, making sure to preserve the natural shape of the twist. When I was satisfied with the texture of the wood, I then stained the entire piece using a pigment I made from Antique Farm Nails, until it was a deep, rich umber shade. Following this, I created a black stain by amalgamating sun-thickened Linseed Oil and Hearth Soot from the interior of our Wood Stove, which I used to coat the stave, layer after layer, for days. In the end, having thoroughly layered the black pigment onto the wood, I used Wisefool's Oil (a ritually enlivened oil of empowerment, which also serves as a lovely wood conditioner) to polish away the excess, and then sealed the whole piece with Wisefool's Glaze (a personally developed wood varnish made from an array of precious and potent arboreal resins, such as Dragon's Blood, Storax, and Black Frankincense.)
Between the ubique beauty of the piece and the potent symbology of the spiral which was naturally engraved upon its form by the forces of nature, I believe this wand will be a lovely tool in the hands of its chosen practitioner.
