The rebar didn't really hurt Dean
because he felt worse every time he had to watch Sam walk away from him. This time, at least, Sam stayed until the very end.
This time, at least,
Dean could close his eys with his heart full.

When We Collide Review
When We Collideby A.L. Jackson
What they say: From the bestselling author of Pulled and Take This Regret comes a gripping new tale of loss and love. William has spent six years running from his past and the last eight months trying to rid his mind of the dreams that increasingly haunt his nights. Trapped in a world of false ambitions and feigned affections, William knows he's reached a breaking point and something's going to give. Maggie had lived her entire life without hope until one man showed her what it meant to be loved. He'd been her light in a lifetime of darkness. Six years ago, that darkness stole him away. Without him, she's surrendered herself to an existence she doesn't know how to escape. When the family William left behind is struck by tragedy, he is called back to the one place he's sworn to never return to again. In a moment that will change his life forever, William comes face to face with the girl who, with one look, captured his heart. He is unable to ignore the buried desires and the hope for the future they'd once believed they'd have. Now William is ready to fight to take back what had been stolen from him six years before. But he never imagined what that fight might cost him. A.L. Jackson gives you an intimate look into the lives of a family bound by an unseen connection in this new contemporary romance. Add to Goodreads I received a copy in exchange for an honest review! What I say: When We Collide is dramatic, heartbreaking and kinda brutal at times. Once you look past all the horrible things that have happened, it's also hopeful and positive! When Maggie and William meet they go on a collision course of pain. Love? Yes, but also pain and suffering. Their meeting is life altering and destructive, but it's also beautiful and sweet.
Maggie's story is really sad and upsetting (I don't want to spoil anything but as there are a few triggers here I felt I should point out that the book involves domestic abuse, violence and rape). Maggie has a pretty traumatic past and a fairly horrible present. She grew up accustomed to suffering and doesn't have the strength to break from her torment now. The only bright spot in her past was meeting William.
William has been treading water and not really living for years. It is only when he is forced home that his life begins to change again. He's the only person who truly sees Maggie, but she needs to find the inner strength to see her own worth. I loved William and really felt for him when he made certain discoveries.
When We Collide isn't an easy read and if you're a fan of light and uncomplicated stories, then it probably isn't for you. I found it harrowing at times but I'm glad I read it. A.L. Jackson covers the difficult topics with sensitivity and does a good job highlighting certain issues! I enjoyed the romance and was really hoping for a HEA!
I've had the Biffy Clyro song Many of Horrors (When We Collide) stuck in my head since reading A.L. Jackson's book. These is for a couple of reasons; one is obviously the title of the book, but mainly it's because the lyrics are very fitting and go so well with the story... "When we collide we come together,If we don't we'll always be apart.I'll take a bruise; I know you're worth it,
When you hit me hit me hard.
You said love was letting us go against what
Our future is for...
Many of horror.
Our future's for many of horror.
I still believe it's you and me 'til the end of time."
