Experiment 1: I started with a dirty pour technique, but then switched to just pouring paint individually. I like how this turned out...kind of like a peacock feather. I’ll let it dry and move on to my next experiment. Next layer of oil paint the "dead layer" or "grisaille". Now wait for this to dry and play with colours. Though this process is slooow I have enjoyed building the image up. I am also enjoying playing with oil paint. worked on several projects this night -priming paper for a new textured warecolor and ink painting -the paper gets primed with acrylic emulsion, dolomite and Carrara marble powder and ground Swabian Alb Jurassic slate - making new watercolors from red Jasper stone - testing a new Chinese calligraphic ink brush and and French kind watercolor brushes -I tested the brushes on old earth color sketches from summer. Those swatches in letter size I will scan later. I intend using them for making new digital paintings ( programs Artrage and Rebelle mostly, also GIMP sometimes). -other paintings waiting to be painted with more layers of acrylic colors, watercolors, pigments and inks. I set them up on an easel to check them out when I walk by at different times of the day in different lightiing, so I can see mistakes and get ideas how to go on later. -testing a new kind of hot pressed watercolor paper from Hahnemuehle ("harmony") with sized surface. Lookes like this kind of paper will be very good for a certain style of ink paintings with delicate lines and washes.
