That sucks so hard about your interpreters. I studied sign language for a year and literally the first thing we learned was how not to be a dick... but it seems some people enjoy forgetting that lesson. If you live in perth, I'd be happy to be a casual interpreter for you if you need it, though I am a bit rusty.

I'm in nyc and hopefully will be able to afford asl classes again soon. Thank you for the kind message though, I was shocked and am almost wondering if she forgot I am very hard of hearing because I am able to play it off quite often? Either way I was shocked she was telling ME about being D/deaf and HoH when she is hearing!

Hi :) First up, you have a really cute blog and I love it :) I've just gotten a cockatiel from a really lovely breeder (yesterday evening). He's so frightened though and while I know that's normal, I still feel terrible. I just want to look after him and for him to be happy.

Congrats on your new friend! Your caring about him and desire for him to be happy already put you on the right track to getting him comfortable. Give it time, treats, and toys. 

I remember when we first got Franky and she was similarly scared and skittish. What actually helped her calm down a lot at first was my friend singing to her. She sat next to the cage singing "Nature Boy" and Franky listened happily. Maybe you can sing a little tune for your new tiel!
