okay so, seath the scaleless, right. we all know him, we all have mixed feelings on him.
what i wanted to talk about today is the name of his soul item in dark souls 2, "old paledrake soul"
on first blush, "paledrake" seems like a fitting name for him. he's white and opalescent, drake is another word for dragon. everything seems to work here. but for most of the souls fans reading this, you might've just gone "hey wait a second" at what i just said there
because "drake" isn't just another name for a dragon in dark souls.
in dark souls, there are dragons (the true dragons, ancient, came from the dawn of time before the age of fire, most of them got wiped out by gwyn and his crew), and there are drakes, which are like,, pseudo-dragons. drakes have 2 legs and wing arms (like a wyvern is usually depicted), while dragons have 4 legs and 2 pairs of wings, and are, notably, immortal. seath was born in the time of ancient dragons, but was born scaleless, hence his name, and his white appearance.
so basically in dark souls 2, the name of his literal soul basically says that he isn't even a real dragon, which is like, the sickest burn imaginable from a game.
Watch your mouth! 🔫🐲

I took a walk in hopes of getting tired and it worked but now my foot hurts as well. I hate being such a cripple
Lucilia!
Lucilia hates Desiderio (the ringmaster of the circus who owns her), but secretly admires his lavish lifestyle. When she finally runs away, she steals a bunch of his belongings and over time starts exhibiting the same characteristics that she loathed in him.

And to think it was with blood that this great establishment rose to power over this city, and it was with blood that they have fallen so low. Seeing what was once a prosperous city now in disarray and filled with paranoid creatures who don't know they're creatures really adds to this sad scenery.

the npcs you gain throughout that gather in the cathedral ward and they all have interesting interactions with you and with each other (like arianna and adella)

The characters behind the doors, and the background they give, the man that sounds like he's beating something (or someone) and the fearful woman for example

That would all the statues littered about. If I remember correctly, it's not until you arrive to the Cathedral that you start seeing statues of Eldrich entities. So since statues are made to honor something, you can tell that the denizens of Yharnam venerate Eldrich abominations.

The incense that is said to protect it from the beasts! You can see it hanging on the ceiling, it took a couple times before I noticed it there.
