Yes, she's vulgar, yes, she's irritating and meddlesome, but consider: she's living her best life. A widow with ample jointure. Has gotten her two daughters married well. she occupies her time doing misguided charity, but, hey, she's trying! And she stays to care for Marianne when she gets ill!

Hello! What book and tv show/movie that you have read/watched in 2023 would you recommend? Weirdest thing you have researched for a fic?

Ohh, this is a great question.

Millions Like Us: Women’s Lives during the Second World War by Virgina Nicolson - This was excellent and I strongly recommend it. It's about the daily lives of British women, and there’s a lot of material that I think will come in handy for Masters of the Air - I think I've found at least one OC idea reading about some of the women who lived near American airbases.

The Year of Peril: America in 1942 - Tracey Campbell . Found this one at the library booksale just after I finished the 1942 podcast from Slate magazine. The book is excellent so far and really flipping some interesting issues over.

Weirdest thing I researched for a fic...I think I might have looked up the exact day of the week that a particular holiday fell on, but that doesn't seem weird.

A bit obvious but what would you have changed in Downton Abbey, please?

Haha it probably is obvious because I talk about it all the time… :P Anyway!

1. Matthew wouldn’t have died. Obviously.

2. Mary and Matthew’s storyline in S3 and on wouldn’t have been the stupid inheritance storyline; it would have been something about the effects of the war on Matthew or maybe a better version of the infertility plot or honestly there’s so many plots that could have been better than the inheritance thing.

3. Robert would have died near or at the end of the series. I don’t have anything against Robert, but I thought his death at the end of the series would have been a good way to bring it full circle because the initial plot was all about preparing for the eventuality of his death. Also I wanted to see earl Matthew which of course could happen if the end of S3 didn’t happen.

4. Sybil wouldn’t have died and Tom would have actually been consistently characterized.

5. Just in general, the results and effects of the war would have been explored more because I’m kind of bitter about how it was barely mentioned in S3.

Hello! I hope you had a great time in your trip. Speaking of the Devil, 5 top highlights / favorite moments of your trip. Thanks :)

It was an amazing trip, really. And I don’t know how I can possibly just give only 5 highlights, but I’ll try!

1. Iguazu. Honestly, the most incredible place I’ve ever been and I can’t describe the viscerally physical and emotional response I had to the power of nature. I went on a boat trip under the falls and cried helplessly at the sight and I saw a bird I believed was God. It was... I really can’t explain it. It sounds ridiculous. But I hope to go back there before I die.

2. The entire experience of going to the Teatro Colon and sitting in a box and seeing a ballet. It was so beautiful and such a wonderful thing to do!

3. Watching a milonga class in the Centro Culturel Kirschner. I mean, that entire building is just fantastic and seriously impressive, but a highlight was just seeing ordinary people of all ages dancing tango in public purely for the love of it. That was when I really felt like I started to “get” Buenos Aires.

4. Reading Pride and Prejudice in Spanish in the cafe in El Ateneo. What a bookshop! I felt like I was living every bookstagram blogger’s dream!

5. Walking around Puerto Madero - it’s so different and I wouldn’t have expected to love the modern area so much but I really did. It was so glitzy and pleasant and then being by the water and exploring the nature reserve so close by was lovely.

Bonus points to all the time I spent getting to know my cousins and spending time with them. Also to the lemonade with ginger and mint which was incredible. To the boat trip in Tigre. To the incredible steak. To the peacefulness of Colonia del Sacramento in Uruguay on my last day. To the beautiful buildings. To the sunset views from Palacio Barolo, the crazy Dante-obsessed palace.

It was brilliant. :)

It’s not about her winning, her party can’t do much with only 33% of the seats. They must form a coalition with two other parties to get the majority (yes, it’s very important in German parliament) and the differences in their identity is so huge that making policies in a productive way will be a massive challenge. It’s possible that they’ll be fighting most of the time. Meanwhile, the extreme right party AfD will make things as difficult as possible for the government. And be a threat to the bit of humanism that is still part of German politics. Like welcoming refugees and forming a society for everyone. :(

Sunset at a beach. At a secluded place, can be in Europe, too. I’d have a glass of wine and would listen to the screams of the waves. NIIICE! When can I go?
