According to the Revival, I believe, Emily studied History in college. I think she and Richard met in college (though did not attend the same school! Yale University didn't open its doors to women until after Emily's time. She would have attended one of the nearby Women's Colleges, like Smith or Vassar) and probably married soon afterwards, and for a woman of Emily's class and generation, a married woman's "career" was expected to be Managing her Husband's Household and being a Society Wife. It was supposed to be a symbiotic partnership: the husband made the money that enabled them to live a Society Life, and the wife made that life HAPPEN.

A college education for a woman of Emily's class and generation was valued so that she would BE an Educated and Cultured Person, NOT to prepare her for a "career." That said, the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) is actually a reasonable choice for a History Major like Emily to devote her time to, as one of the major focuses of the real-life organization is Historical Preservation (Revolutionary War history, to be specific). At least some of those "fundraisers" would probably be intended for historical preservation or purchasing monuments to commemorate historical events.

Totally normal for a legitimate for-profit company to refuse to reclaim or stop running their products even after they're no longer being paid to do so. I'm sure it's very normal to just keep running your service for free when your contract's been terminated. Spending money to continue running cameras that supposedly no one is looking at is definitely not an indicator they are just run by the federal government to spy on everyone and only a wacko conspiracy theorist would think so.

If Venmo were to close tomorrow all your money would vanish. There's no insurance or guarantee on any of these things. I know banks aren't great but legit banks will have the "FDIC insured" logo on their doors and websites, which means if my bank goes under tomorrow I still get my money back. Also I guarantee you there is a credit union somewhere in your town, go find it.

You can leave some money in Venmo or Apple pay or whatever, but NOT ALL OF IT for the love of God.
