Infant - Open and Close: Twist Container

This student is very focused, experimenting with different techniques to open and close this container! Recently, he has shown great interest the open and close materials, which include a twist container, a zipper pouch, and a snap container. These materials help refine a student’s fine motor skills and prepare students for independently managing their containers during mealtimes. The twist container, in particular, aids in developing the palmar grasp and the wrist-twisting motion.

Infant - Palmar Grasp

In the Nido, we have blocks not only for stacking but also for refining a child’s Palmar grasp, where they hold something in the palm of their hand with their fingers and thumb. This student picks up blocks in both hands, brings them to her mouth, switches them between hands, and hits two blocks together. Exploring these refines both fine motor control and problem solving skills as she works to use them in different ways.
