My Thoughts on “The Family Of Jake Paul” by Shane Dawson
This episode puts a lot of things into persepctive with as to why Jake is the way he is. It shows that Logan and Jake’s rivalry has been ingrained in them since they were young and they were taught that competition is what makes you stronger. Their rivalry is aggravated by the fact that they have the same job and all eyes are on them constantly. Maybe Jake feels inferior to Logan as Logan always seems to get the spotlight regardless of whatever reason. Logan does have a tendency to make things about him. He made a response to Shane’s series, in which he was very hypocrtical by saying Shane is scaring his fans even though he filmed a dead body and pretended to get shot in front of his fans and even contradicts himself. He DMs Shane telling him he thinks the series is incredible but then goes on a rant about it in a video. Logan just doesn’t seem to be able to let things be and just let Jake have a moment that’s just his.
As for the boy’s parents. It seems that Greg is very over bearing and gets too involved in his sons’ lives. Pam is more of a wild card because either what Shane said about her wanting to just have “a thing” is true or she is very aware of how her videos are perceived by the public and doesn’t care. There are two big things that were brought up in this video I want to mention though.
1. Jake’s story about his 8th grade trip. In it Jake talks about how he was a good student for the second half of 8th grade because he didn’t want to be banned from the class trip if he got one more behavior strike. I think this shows that Jake is capable of controlling his immature behavior if he believes the reward is worth it. He went from 14 behavioral strikes during the first half of the year to zero in the second half. If he had serious self-control issues I don’t believe he’d be able to do that. So, this could mean that Jake just believes that he has more to gain by being immature online than being mature and would change his behavior if he thought would benefit from it.
2. The part where Pam disses Greg’s parenting of their sons. We see a clip of Pam openly dissing Greg for not teaching the boys to go to the door and meet the parents of the girl their dating. This seemed very odd and her casualness made it sound like that wasn’t the first time she’s done this. Now Greg may have done this to her too but I don’t know if there is video evidence. I wouldn’t be surprised if Greg and Pam talked bad about one another to the boys when they were young though. This could have effected them negatively and any divorce counselor would tell you that you should NEVER diss your ex around the children. It also came off as Pam trying to put the blame on Greg for her ill-mannered sons so people wouldn’t be looking at her and asking questions.
Disclaimer: Please remember this is all speculation and I’m not accusing anyone of anything. The next part of the series will help us understand more.
