Update re: Go client software - apparently, the one I linked you to has been discontinued by IGS now, so you'll need to use this one instead, at least to play online (I still use the other software for GNUgo). It's got some plus and some minus points on the last one, but a major plus is that the online aspect is much simpler (no configuring of clients or ports etc) - so really, that's probably what you'd want anyway!
