I am femslash
This post is part of Femslash Revolution’s I Am Femslash series, sharing voices of F/F creators from all walks of life. The views represented within are those of the author only.
Abt the author: pandeimos
aroace nb sourpuss who loves to draw but can’t colour to save their life ;) On a lifelong journey to master Cute and loving it. I am a firm believer in creating what you want to see, and queer content by queer people. I am also bad at essays :p good luck with that
Why femslash?
I started being active in femslash around 5 years ago, because I wasn’t too happy with the content a) in my fandoms and b) in general.
In both, I found that most queer – read gay content was created by straight people for straight people, and most of these were nsfw by default. That default makes me feel like we’re a fetish, a method of storytelling rather than representation. It makes me feel like the content was created at me, that we’re alright in hypothesis and not in practice; many a person has said it before me: writing and enjoying slash an ally does not make.
I wanted to see something positive and sweet and happy. I wanted to see girls being positive and sweet and loving. So I made it. I wasn’t worried about about lack of exposure or lack of an audience, because I wasn’t alone. There is a lot of demand for positive female presence in fanwork, for positive queer female presence. We aren’t alone, we always look for new content. It doesn’t matter if it’s “bad” or “good” – read, ugly or pretty, sketches and drafts or smooth arts and 100k masterpieces.
The best content is created by us, for us. Bi girls, trans girls, nb girls, ace girls, genderfluid girls, intersex girls, gay girls: we are femslash. We know what we like better than anyone else, we know what we need better than anyone else. Go forth! Create! Support the creators! Spread the news and the love!! 😘
