other boys are boring💕
Wait, was there no new music for me to promote this week, you may ask? Quite the contrary, actually! There was so much new music - probably because of Valentine's Day releases - that I only now finished sorting through it all. So, here are my top favorites of the week!
This drop was like unexpectedly running into an old, dear friend. Back in those dreary early 2010's when Obama ruined pop music, Lykke Li was one of the very few artists actually releasing quality content. I must have listened to Youth Novels and Wounded Rhymes until my ears were bleeding, it was just my kind of indie pop. This song hits all the vibes of her early albums.
Also, the song features a sample of Max Richter's 'Vivaldi's Four Seasons Recomposed'. Because of course it does.
Yonaka are probably my currently favorite band in the heavier alt rock genre. This is just a very masterfully polished banger, I don't really have much to say about it. They've been around since like 2014, but it's their more recent releases that have really caught my attention.
Ok, I've no idea who is panicbaby. I think you need to be on TikTok to know more. It seems like she's a German singer who had some kind of viral TikTok hit or something? Anyway, that's irrelevant. As soon as I heard this song, I was instantly in love. It feels quite unpolished, but I think it actually helps the song because this is all about vibes, and they be impeccable.
this is probably the best new release of the week, and once again, you apparently have to be on TikTok to know more about Yaelokre. Apparently, this is a one person project, and behind it is a girl of Icelandic-Filipino ancestry (okay). She has built some kind of extensive fantasy world lore and her indie folk songs tie into this complex fictional universe. Honestly, it's kind of crazy and fascinating, but at the same time, I can't afford to fall into a new rabbit hole just now. So, I'll just have to be content with enjoying this song without the broader context.
and oh my gosh, is it a fantastic song. it's like a fairly tale that's both charmingly simple and deceptively complicated at the same. This young artist has a massive following on TikTok and honestly, I can understand why.
Can't ask a drowning man for flowers. Can't ask a rabid dog for love.
"everything I've ever loved has claw marks on it"
"try to numb yourself, yeah you are staying busy"
panicbaby stop being so relatable
(072, she/her)
"Come back come back
Darling look at what you did
I'm still waiting by the door just like a kid"
