Background:

They called her the Jewel of Dorne, never a princess but certainly fit to be. With jet black hair that fell in waves over soft, golden skin and a tenderness always present about her, she was her father’s pride from her first breath. She spent her days studying etiquette and matters of court, learning the proud history of her house and that of the Dornish principality until it was noticed her interests lie elsewhere. Upon discovering the girl had a particular proclivity for combat and spearmanship, her father allowed her to be trained alongside her bastard brother Tryston, only a few months her junior.

It was on her seventeenth name day that the girl was given a pair of young panthers that she named for Targaryen dragons of old. The beasts were meant to be a vanity piece, caged and held in the grand hall of the palace. However, with their presence came strange dreams, and with the dreams, terrible restlessness. In a sleep deprived stupor, Neila one day opened the cage, much to her handmaiden’s horror. Yet, the cats did not attack. Rather, Tyraxes and his sister Syrax merely prowled out of their enclosure and laid at the lady’s feet. From that day forward, the cats roamed freely and the cage was removed. The dreams persisted, though became lighter in tone, peaceful even, granting the lady her rest.

Neila has grown close to both creatures, though her bond with Tyraxes far surpasses any relationship with the second panther. Syrax instead opts for her freedom, often straying from the palace and returning only when she is ready.

Background:

A bastard is born of passion. It was a common belief in Dorne, and certainly one upheld in the Vyrwel house. While the infidelity may have strained his father’s relationship with his lady step-mother, Tryston was never shown resentment from the noblewoman. He was allowed to live in the palace, permitted to eat at the table, ride alongside his father, train in the yard and study literature and history with his half sister. Though, being a bastard, he was never forced to learn the proprieties of court. This never bothered him, and he took advantage of his freedoms from the responsibilities of lordship as he grew.

He would venture north, spending time in The Reach, sail the sea of Dorne with lords and ladies, and when justice in the principality demanded it, he would ride North with wandering crows, escorting prisoners to the Wall.

The bastard is known to be a troublemaker, playing tricks on palace staff for fun or making hellions of younger children about the towns and palaces he visited even well into his twenties. His energy was welcome however, despite often becoming ‘a thorn in the side’ of his family or hosts.

When I was in middle school they decided to give all of the hallways street signs, one of these signs was pride st. My friend and I felt that someone should improve it and in the end it came down to me. So with a sharpie in hand I transformed pride st into gay pride street. My little group of friends and I thought it was the best thing ever. Then the guilt hit. I waited weeks just waiting to be called to the office for defacing school property. I felt so guilty about breaking the rules that I wrote a letter admitting to it. Today my friend texted me. She has a new coworker that attended the same middle school and remembers it happening. So while I didn't live in that town for long at least some little part of me is remembered.
