Predictions for the next few episodes:
* Teary farewell between Mack and Hope as Mack leaves the crumbling Framework (like that episode in Justice League: Unlimited where Superman says goodbye to his imaginary son)
* Ward stays behind to ensure the Framework is destroyed. We get a teary farewell between him and Daisy (IT’S DAISY, WHY DO I KEEP SEEING ‘SKYE’).
* Trip is probably going to be killed by AIDA or Alistair Fitz. Like the group gets captured and to punish the group, Trip is killed again.
* Jemma is NOT the one who breaks Fitz from his brainwashing. That’d be too obvious. Since Radcliffe and Daisy both tried and failed, my money is on Framework Ward. If you truly want to redeem Ward, this would be the way to do it. Have him relate to Fitz because they both came from broken homes.
* Robbie Reyes returns at the very end to storm AIDA’s lair. He’s the one who fucks her up in the physical world while online AIDA is destroyed by Fitz, Simmons, and Radcliffe.
* Radcliffe stays behind in the Framework to atone for his sins.
* Fitz and Simmons retire from SHIELD and Fitz basically becomes Jessica Jones since he develops PTSD from the experience.
* DAISY IS THE NEW DIRECTOR OF SHIELD.
* The moment that Fitz breaks free from his conditioning will be turning on his father. He’ll probably shoot him dead in order to rescue the group.
EDIT: Framework Ward will be the new Director of SHIELD / The Resistance
I have only seen him in gifs so far, and I already hate Papa Fitz with the power of a hundred suns.
Papa Fitz can still go fuck himself.
Hi! Do you think the fact that the declassified book confirms that Radcliffe had in fact seen Alistair recently is telling of what will happen in season five? I have a feeling that them confirming that most likely means that we have a better chance of seeing Alistair again, probably in an even more relevant role.
Hi Anon,
I think what that does is it allowed the writers the opening. That maybe when they put it in they weren’t sure what they were going to do with it but wanted to keep the option on the table. Which is something AOS does a lot, they put stuff out there and sometimes they cash it in and others they don’t.
With May for example they set up Bahrain right out of the gate, gave us bread crumbs, and then hit us with it in Season 2. Howerver, they still go back to it seasons later as the story requires, in season 4 it was the crux of May’s fix and laid the ground world for the terrifying world of the Framework.
The other factor is if the writers were inspired by the idea and even the actor. Again, something we’ve seen the writers do is change a story based on an actor or things that come up in the writers room as they get going. Alistair came up and was created at some point in season Season 4 as they got ready to do the Framework, before that they discussed Radcliffe being his father
For me I can see Alistair’s return at this point being some sort of roadblock to Fitz’s recovery if the writers feel they need one. That if he is finally getting back to a good place post Framework and the team is back on earth…just when Fitz is ready to move on Alistair crashes the party and dredges up all sorts of icky from both the real world and the Framework.
According to the declassified book, Alistair thought he knew what was best for Fitz. I'm wondering if it's possible that he has Fitz separated from the rest of the team in Season Five because he views the team and what they have done in the past and present as dangerous to Fitz's well-being even though Alistair himself is more of a threat?
HI Anon,
I am not counting on the Framework version of Alistair being like his real world. Especially after the declassified because he was written purely to have been a dark influence on Fitz and create “The Doctor”.
We still have few hints as to what the real man is like outside of:
He told Fitz he was worthless/stupid
He was not a good man
He left when Fitz was 10
He knew Radcliffe
He’d seen Radcliffe relatively recently
He was a drunk.
He was who he was in the Framework because that was what the writers needed to get Fitz where he was. If they bring him back in the real world they can essentially start over. They could absolutely make him like Alistair of the Framework or something totally new as the story dictates. I still don’t have enough information to speculate beyond this.
My list as to why Fitz was left behind remains the same, I’m still leaning towards it was the Spacenappers chose to leave him behind for one reason or another.
Fitz is a threat to their plans somehow. (this is a pretty big umbrella statement because it could be as simple as he’d get them home to options that are outside of the “managing expectations” realm of things.)
They are worried Fitz would help get the team out of there. Fitz (and Simmons) did what Hydra hadn’t been able to do in thousands of years, bring someone back through the portal on Maveth. Whoever took the team might not want to risk him doing the same thing again.
Though if they underestimate Jemma’s drive to get back to him they are in for a rude awakening.
It was more a matter of separating Fitzsimmons, worried what they would do together, and needing Jemma’s skill set more than Fitz’s at that particular moment.
Fitz was used as a bargaining chip elsewhere
IE whoever took the team agreed to leave him in exchange for something or some one.
Fitz could be the leverage to the team, he’s a back on earth “alone” and a way of trying to get them to cooperate….once they get away from the alien bug things.
Someone needed his skills. He is now their prisoner. They need him preparing things on earth for ?????Leaving him behind is part of the plan/trap all along. They need him or the team to do something and thought leaving him behind would get that. Something about the good old Descendant theory was rightHe was left on earth to take the fall for Shield. He was simply left behind. Now he must deal with the fall out of the Framework, find his friends, and keep ahead of those hunting Shield.Left field not on my radar option.
Right now my front runners are they see Fitz as a threat to their plans in some way, there was a deal struck for him, or leaving him behind was part of the plan/trap in order to get him or Jemma to do something for them.
If another government did take the team, could Alistair still be involved? I have a feeling he could be. I wouldn't be surprised if Fitz knows nothing about his father's side of the family due to wanting nothing to do with Alistair, including heritage, so maybe it's possible that Alistair is descendant from whatever society this organization come from...
Hi Anon,
At this point he absolutely could be. Everything is wide open because we know so little.
Seriously is it NYCC yet?!
One of the many things we don’t know is what government or if it was even and earth based government for that matter. We know we are heading to space so the government that sent the Spacenappers could be from an unknown alien race or Kree or Wakanda or Australia…..literally its wide open.
The only way the writers would even go into something like that, be it Alistair is returning and/or tied to who took the team and if Fitz’s heritage was important to the story.
Is it possible that Alistair actually did care about Fitz at somepoint? Radcliffe said that Alistair was proud when Fitz was born. Something changed, Glasgow theory or otherwise. Plus, I remember Fitz saying back in season one when in denial about Ward talking about people not being born evil, but something bad must have happened. I suspect on some level he was talking about his father.
Hi Anon!
Something I bear in mind with Fitz’s backstory/his father is that the writers didn’t intend on giving us more of his or Jemma’s backstory after Seeds. Jed said in an interview around SDCC last year when asked about Fitz’s backstory “That were weren’t going to go there but now we might,” or something along that lines. So the back story with his father and how it related to Radcliffe all came about as they plotted out Season 4. It remains to be seen if those plans extend into Season 5.
My personal head canon is that yes, Alistair was thrilled to have a son and he was proudly showing off his new son Leopold to Radcliffe. However, as Fitz grew he wasn’t the son that Alistair wanted. Alistair didn’t understand or appreciate Fitz’s genius and we know he took things like compassion as “womanly sentiment”, and he didn’t approve of that at all. He wanted a son that was like him. And that was what he got in the Framework. Cold, cruel, ruthless, powerful, and successful. In the Framwork he still didn’t understand Fitz’s genius but he used it and embraced it for his own gain.
I’ve re watched the interaction with Alistair and Radcliffe a few times now and a few things that continue to stick with me. Which is why I hold onto that theory that Alistair was more in the mix in the real world than we realized and its even possible had a deal with AIDA and was in there himself getting the life he always wanted.
Alistair never questioned the “other world”. We saw pretty much everyone else dismiss and scoff at the idea, but Alistair had no issue accepting it. Also for someone who didn’t like “Womanly sentiment” he had no issue with Fitz’s relationship with Ophelia.
Alistair was very possessive of Fitz (he took him from his mother), especially with Radcliffe. He made it clear to Radcliffe that Fitz was HIS son.
Possible jealousy that in the real world Fitz had gotten close to Radcliffe?
“In THIS world, he is a great man.”
“You don’t know me or my son.”
For a fic that pulls in a few of these theories check out THIS by @the-nerdy-stjarna
This would be a scary yet interesting arc for them to continue on and I feel could possibly work well with Fitz recovering from the Framework. A theory I had all last season and still have in the mix is that there was someone behind the scenes pulling the strings all along. I don’t think Alistair is that person but its possible he is in the mix of who is.
But at the same time we have to be ready that they are done with Alistair and we’ll never have him seen or mentioned again.
