for shiake to really work for me i need shido to be just an absolutely pathetic wretch of a man. he's powerful and charismatic and rich but he is just some guy. he should suck at sex and be totally rizzless. the only thing he should be good at is nonconning akechi. he's the guy who puts the entire plot of the game in motion but he's not even the real villain, just a puppet of yaldabaoth. ive always found him a more compelling antagonist than yadly because of his patheticness, sort of like ikutsuki from p3. he's a nobody but has a personal connection to both akechi and joker, and particularly with akechi has the ability to inflict a more intimate and lasting form of trauma than yaldy ever could, which is what makes shiake so juicy. i do wish his boss fight had been longer tho, it was so easy lol

imo shido doesn't know akechi is his son. i think he's drawn to akechi and wants him as a successor, and in fics he should be constantly comparing akechi to his mom, but to me he's too stupid and self-assured to suspect that him and akechi are related. he has such an insane god complex that he thinks this kid with magic powers and an uncanny resemblance to the sex worker he slept with once showing up at his doorstep and offering himself as a hitman is just a fun coincidence, and he's just that lucky. he's such a smug idiot that he'd be like yeah this is all gonna work out for me, nothing to worry about whatsoever. i think he doesn't know akechi is his son but he does see how akechi longs for parental affection, how he is desperate for someone to follow and devote himself to while secretly planning to kill them, and uses that manipulate akechi. i see shido as being very skilled at manipulation and making people do what he wants, but not in any kind of exceptional way. it's just something that was instilled in him while growing up among japan's elite.

i think the juiciest part of shiake that i want to explore in my fic is how shido grooms akechi to be just like him, encourages akechi to mirror his worst qualities and become a little shido. he sees akechi as a weapon, a disposable object but also something that could prove invaluable if it weathers whatever he throws at it. in his mind he sees their relationship as transactional, thinks he could throw akechi away at any point, but i don't think he actually would. he innately sees the resemblance between them even if he doesn't know they're related, and therefore will unconsciously move to make akechi his heir, the prince who will one day pilot the ship when he steps down as captain. shido's abuse would instill in akechi a fear of being weak and vulnerable, while also making him mimic shido even as he tries not to. i also want to get into akechi recreating this abuse with joker, with him as the perpetrator, an impulse born out of this fear. akechi is drawn to joker and wants to get close to him while also seeing him as disposable, someone he's going to kill eventually, exactly the same as shido sees him.

the more he hates shido the more akechi becomes him, and the more shido treats him like an object the tighter they're wound together. that's shiake to me. shido is a monster of a human being but also entirely ordinary, and shiake is depressingly realistic despite the crazy setup and supernatural shenanigans.
