Papa M: Rockefeller Chapel 2019
Papa M returns! David Pajo, whose CV is much too heavy to summarize on this here blahg, is gigging again...with fresh material! Exclamation point! Two new sketches and two classics make up this seamless 25min set opening for SunnO))) (more on that later). The new stuff carries that classic Pajo vibe, recently resurrected on the excellent pair of LPs, A Broke Moon Rises and Highway Songs, even further into space...and they’ll apparently be arranged for a full band(!) to record on a new record(!) down the line. Exciting shit. Sandwiched between those glimpses of the future was a wild re-imagining of Glass Museum, one of Pajo’s ace contributions to Tortoise’s timeless MNLWND record. As if new zones and a from-left-field trts noncover weren't enough, the regalAF set ended with a gorgeous take on jam of jams, Arundel. Sometimes there’s there’s a jam...and sometimes, there’s a jam.
