Something about edge, our little (well… not so little) outcast currently.
We know he’s very tight knit with his brother, pretty much droning over him every chance the guy gets. Though I am curious is there anyone else edge has developed a more… friendly relationship with?
Is there someone in the gaggle of skeletons he’s more inclined to help, says less nasty comments to, isn’t as irritated by?
Come to think of it - how does he rank all of the others from most tolerable to least? I’m partially convinced he has a secret journal about it lol!
Oh Edge... Our angry, struggling boy. (And lowkey my favorite to think about when it comes to interpersonal relationships so thank you for the ask!)
Edge definitely struggles with what we would call friendly behavior. The world he grew up in actively discouraged it, and Red reinforced that message to try to keep Edge safe. That doesn't mean that he doesn't have deep and complicated emotions, especially regarding the people he cares for! He's just... bad at conveying them in ways that people outside his culture would understand. Especially now that he's in this new, weird, soft world surrounded by monsters who seem to think and act a lot differently than he does. The whole situation makes him feel like a fish out of water.
Of the group, Edge gets along with Papyrus the best. They may be different in a lot of ways, but their shared core traits bring them together. Striving to be their very best, to look after their brothers, to be responsible and on top of everything... these are things they inherently understand and appreciate about each other. Plus, despite their difference in LV, Papyrus can not only hold his own against Edge in a fight, but actually beat him sometimes, which makes things fun and keeps Edge on his toes. He likes that.
Sans and Stretch rank about the same in how much they frustrate/worry/irritate Edge and he often finds himself wanting to shake some sense into them. He can see through Stretch's "I'm just a harmless stoner" act and knows he's more dangerous than he lets on. That makes the sloppy, slothful, self-depreciating way he carries himself all the more frustrating. Knowing that Stretch is an alternate version of himself, it's downright embarrassing. As for Sans, Edge views him as a weaker version of his brother, so there's some weird mixed feelings there, especially as he watches Sans overextend himself trying to take on a leadership role he's clearly not suited for. Edge respects that it's not his place to intervene (at least not until Sans starts fucking up badly enough that it might put him or Red in danger), so mostly he just keeps his commentary to snarking about lesser concerns and keeping a weather eye out.
Blue, however. Blue is the least tolerable to him by far. He gets on Edge's nerves in a way Edge can't fully explain. Maybe it's his childish demeanor, or the way he tries to treat everything as a game. Maybe it's how eager he is to interact with humans, or how he wants to make it seem like he and Edge are on the same level when he's clearly never been in a serious fight in his life. Edge doesn't know. He just knows Blue gets under his skin with amazing efficiency.
