The Edge of Something||HuntJay
[Sunday evening, after Thanksgiving, in NYC]
Since speaking to Jay the day before and making plans to meet at the airport, Hunter had found himself slipping into thoughts about it. It was hard to believe that it had come to this; that it had worked out like this for them. It made Hunter smile a little just thinking about it. Sebastian was great, perfect, his anchor through all of this, even though he didn’t need to be, and the Deans had been so friendly and welcoming, that Hunter wished he’d come to Ojay years ago with Seb. So it was easy to enjoy the rest of their weekend, and not wish it away.
However, it became evident once they got to the airport in Santa Barbara that things were not going to go to plan. A series of events lead to Hunter and Sebastian’s (and Rob and Karen and Jett’s) flight being delayed arriving in New York. Much, much later than anticipated, actually. Hunter texted Jay and they made alternate arrangements, with Jay suggesting a late dinner for the two of them at a restaurant not far from where Hunter and Sebastian lived. Hunter tried not to let the delay, and slow moving people affect his mood but by the time they got back to the penthouse he was already keyed up. Sebastian too had been agitated on the flight too, no doubt because of the delay, and it was probably for the best that they weren’t both going to be hanging around the penthouse tonight.
He dropped his bag in the spare room, his room, and looked around. It didn’t feel as weird as he thought it might. Out in the kitchen, Hunter poured a glass of water and drank down almost the whole thing. “I already texted Catie and work so I could take a couple of extra days off work,” he explained. I figure I’ll just take care of the rest of my stuff in the master tomorrow while you’re at work.” His phone lit up with a notification telling him Jay was on his way to the restaurant. Hunter went back to his room and took his wallet and keys out of his bag and headed for the front closet where his heavier jacket and boots were. “I’m going out for a bit. Don’t wait up,” Hunter said to Sebastian, with a clap to the back of his shoulder as he passed. He put his phone down on the hall table and put on his boots and coat before leaving, phone still in the penthouse.
In the lobby, Hunter was surprised to spot a familiar figure leaning against the concierge desk. His mouth turned up in a genuine smile as he walked over and opened his arms to Jay. “You little sneak. What are you doing here Jay?” Hunter laughed. Still it was good to see Jay, and he couldn’t t stop smiling, even as he was careful of the bruises he remembered seeing the morning before. “It’s so good to see you again, even if it was just yesterday. It feels like days ago.” Especially with all that had happened. Hunter took Jay by the hand and tugged him outside, still smiling. “I can’t believe you’re here, we’re together and I could literally just kiss you right now if I wanted”, he laughed. But he sobered for a minute, his smile faltering slightly, and he put himself at arms distance. “I could kiss you right now if I wanted, right?” Hunter asked trepidatiously.
