Over the last week, residents of Paradisus will have noticed that decorations have gone up all over the island. Storefronts are decked out with garlands, twinkling lights all strung up, and in the center of town is a fifty foot Christmas tree, immaculately decorated. But it’s not truly Christmas without one important aspect: snow!
In coordination with the King and their Regent, the Paradisus coven of witches have all banded their magic together, casting a spell over Paradisus to drop the temperature on the island and let fresh snow fall daily, turning it into a true winter wonderland. And that’s not all! To truly make the first holiday season on the island special, there will be special events and activities all throughout the month for the residents to enjoy.

Here’s our next fun event! (and note that it says part 1)
From now until the end of the month, the witches have cast a spell to keep the temperature cold and snow lightly blanketing the island. Warm clothes will be provided to all residents for free, as well as of course being sold in the shops- all provided by the Avery’s. There will be spots on the island where snow falls more heavily, allowing for residents to have all sorts of snow-fun! From snowball fights to snow angels, it’s open for all.
Along with decorations all over, there will be multiple activities for everyone to enjoy all through the city. A two mile-long festival of lights every night for residents to walk through with stops along the way for games and food and drink stalls. Holiday movie nights being show in the park on the weekends (remember to bring your blankets!), an ice skating rink, and holiday pop-up shops for people to buy everything from Christmas trees to decorations.
Feel free to use your imagination with holiday events happening all over the island as well as enjoying (or not) the chilly weather! After all, it won’t stay peaceful for long.
This has been a difficult week for all of us. There are currently six Paradisus citizens in the hospital, three of which are humans with varying stages of hypothermia. We did learn of the unfortunate loss of a fourth human due to the circumstances as well over the course of the week and we take full responsibility. We will be aiding those still in the hospital to our fullest extent.
For some good news, the power is back on. We have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to not only repair the grids on the island but to fortify them, ensuring something like this never happens again. His Majesty’s goal when creating this home for us was for us all to not only live in harmony but to live here in safety. Setbacks are inevitable, but we want to assure our citizens this will not happen again.
The Flores family is working in conjunction with outside providers to import food and bloodbags to the island so we can quickly restock our shelves. Deliveries will be made to all businesses throughout the island as well as the apartment buildings so you can all stay home and rest. Additional supplies though will be available through the hospital and Liu Labs.
We’d like to particularly thank our hospital staff and all those individuals who volunteered in aiding one another during this difficult time. It’s truly shown us that while our island is a work in progress, it is working. We want to celebrate you all for your tenacity and perseverance over these last few days, so a second message will be coming in the following days detailing how so.
Over the last couple weeks, the island of Paradisus has been a winter wonderland. Lights and decorations everywhere, snow falling daily. It’s been nothing short of magical. With any longterm spells though, there’s always a chance for a hiccup--and with one as powerful as a semi-permanent weather change, it was almost inevitable.
On Christmas night, with the entire island celebrating, Paradisus’ power grid was overworked, and with how much revelry was all throughout, the magic in the air intensified, and what was originally just supposed to be a constant flurry, devolved into a snowstorm, just adding extra stress to the power grid as heaters were cranked up to keep everyone warm.
Overnight it all became too much, and the grid failed, causing a power outage throughout the entire island while a blizzard raged on.
Citizens of Paradisus are waking up to a blanket of white outside their windows this morning and no heat to keep warm. Power lines were downed by the blizzard and streets are nearly impassible unless by foot.
Merry Christmas indeed.

Here’s part two of our Christmas event!
With everyone (namely witches) celebrating the holidays, the snow spell went a bit awry and overnight it went out of control and created a blizzard. Even with all their magic combined, it’ll take a few days to not only stop the snow completely (ending the spell early) but get rid of it.
The island’s power grid wasn’t ready for the surge of power it got overnight, essentially causing a blackout--only made worse by heavy snow knocking down power lines (not to mention, being on an island, the breeze coming off the ocean is just making it colder).
With no preparation for a storm, there’s no salt or snow plows, so unless walking by foot, people are essentially trapped where they are.
Of all the species, SHIFTERS will feel the cold the least since they’re more hot-blooded (but they’ll still be uncomfortable).
HUMANS and WITCHES will feel the cold the most and will be most at risk for serious illness if precautions aren’t taken.
VAMPIRES will feel the cold but be able to tolerate it a bit more depending on their blood ranking (ex-humans and civilians will be the coldest. Purebloods will feel it the least but still be uncomfortably cold).
Apartment buildings (where most people live) do not have any heating sources. Noble vampires or people with houses/estates will most likely have fireplaces.
The center of the city will have fires burning (aided by magic) to try and keep people warm. The city will supply extra blankets and layers and people are urged to stay in groups to keep each other safe and warm.
Now for some extras:
Due to the power outage, the island’s advanced security measures are offline so the island will be closed down. No one in, no one out.
Colds will be an inevitable fallout. Feel free to angst it up with your own characters! But for anything serious (hypothermia, injuries, etc) please ask one of us first so we can okay it.
Nonperishable food will be rationed out by city officials if/when needed.
Blood will be rationed out to vampires (including the Purebloods)
Humans in particular will be watched over--not only since they’re the most feeble, but because their blood is the most important to ensure the vampires are fed.
