During a Minneapolis town hall meeting, 55-year-old Anthony J. Kazmiervzak walked up to Rep. Ilhan Omar, yelling for her resignation. He then sprayed a syringe of unknown, "foul-smelling" liquid at her before being tackled by security. Omar was not injured and refused to leave the town hall meeting, stating her determination not to let the aggressor deter her mission. Kazmierczak has been arrested and is currently being held at the Hennepin County Jail. - Minneapolis Police & Jail Records

The president said that while he had not watched the video of Ilhan Omar's attack, he called her a "fraud" and went on to dismiss the incident. He further suggested, without evidence, that she "probably had herself sprayed," implying she had set up the incident herself. Omar - who was not injured - continues to face numerous personal attacks from the president following the assault. - ABC News

ICE agents attempted to enter the Ecuadorian consulate in Minneapolis, but were denied access by the staff, repeating, "You cannot enter here, this is foreign government." This invasion has led Ecuador's foreign ministry to lodge a formal diplomatic protest, emphasizing that international law prohibits law enforcement from entering consulates/embassies without consent.

The president warned Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey that he was "playing with fire" after Frey publicly refused to enforce federal immigration laws, calling for an end to Operation Metro Surge following the murder of Alex Pretti.

A recent poll suggests that international tourism to the US is taking a major hit, with around 80% of respondents replying that they would avoid traveling to America due to anger over the administration's immigration enforcement policies, killings in Minneapolis, fear about personal safety, border surveillance, and wider political concerns. - The Independent

A federal judge issued a temporary restraining order blocking the administration from moving/deporting 5-year-old Liam Ramos, who was sent to a detention facility in Texas with his father after being taken by ICE in Minnesota. The judge ordered that they remain in Texas. At the same time, the court reviews claims that Liam was improperly detained due to the availability of caregivers.

An analysis found that in the first nine months of the administration, ICE street arrests and internal deportations surged to an 11-fold increase, resulting in a seven-fold rise in immigrant arrests with no criminal convictions as the agency shifted its priority from those with criminal history and capacity in detention centers expanded.

‘Like a father figure’: Family, friends mourn Upper Darby man who died in ICE custody

Parady La died Jan. 9 while in ICE custody. La was hospitalized after being held at the Federal Detention Center in Philadelphia.

Parady La was a resident of Upper Darby, near Philadelphia, who ICE kidnapped and killed last week (this post is from 16 January 2026.)

It's worth discussing that stigma against drug users is part of what killed him, and ICE is using it to try to justify his death at their hands; La started to suffer fentanyl withdrawal at the detention center, lost consciousness, and was given several doses of Narcan after several hours of his condition being ignored. Narcan is intended to reverse an overdose; it will not do shit for someone in withdrawal. ICE brought him to Jefferson Hospital already dead and is now reducing him to his drug use and slandering him as a criminal after their kidnapping of him and negligence while he was in their custody killed him.

As grateful as I am that more people are waking up to the violence of ICE and US law enforcement, I’m disappointed that it not only took so long, but that it took murdering white people for others to care.

I am thankful to have more support against ICE and police brutality but I’m ashamed that so many people I know didn’t care when it was happening to black and brown people.

It primarily goes to show me that many of you don’t see people of color as people at all.

In 2026, ICE has killed nine people, and I’m sure many of you only know about two of them.

Keith Porter, Parady La, Heber Sanchaz Domínguez, Victor Manuel Diaz, Luis Beltran Yanez-Cruz, Luis Gustavo Nunez Caceres, and Geraldo Lunas Campos were all murdered this year at the hands of ICE.

They were all just as human and just as deserving of your outrage as Renee and Alex, and I hope you all remember their names as well.

By no means am I saying that this newfound support and outrage isn’t needed or appreciated, but along with that, I hope that if you weren’t outraged at the deaths of any other people, maybe take a moment to reflect on why that is, and make an effort to care about everyone who’s been killed, assaulted, and/or harmed. Not just the ones you deem worthy of it.

Again, while I am exceedingly grateful for the newfound support and outrage, I’m extremely disgusted at the amount of white people I’ve seen harassing black and Latino people for not speaking up more about this.

Especially with comments like “how can you keep posting normally at a time like this?” when I guarantee none of them have spoken up when this was only happening to minorities.

This brutality has been going on and directed towards people of color for longer than the US has been a proper country. No one is perfect and some things do take time, but most of you displaying this selective outrage are older than I am and I need you to get with the program.

If you’re going to be vocal and angry about whats happened this month, I appreciate it, but do not direct it towards the people who have BEEN speaking out, and are trying to take care of themselves despite these events, STAND UP and direct it towards the officers directly killing people.
